Looked a lot better with the 2017 lineup in town.
Stringer for Green and Moz for Raz is an upgrade in pressure somehow

And the pressure is not as important if we are marking it inside 50 and kicking scores from it. Still important to have the pressure but a few strings to the bow is good.

Oh absolutely.

The 2017 band back together worked well.
Given the type of game plan we are going to be playing then we had better be looking at players who have decent running power and above average speed as far as midfield / half back types go.

Surely we throw everything we possibly can to pry Dunkley out of the Dogs? Cant be happy being played as a relief ruckman when he is an absolute elite inside mid..

We won't get him

Its speed on every line.

Defenders need it to cover each other and play 1v1.

I have often thought this myself. What is he currently on at the dogs? Doubt he would leave but you can only try. He would be perfect for our midfield.

Dunkley is contracted til 2022 and a good player. Not going anywhere.
A lot of players are 'contracted' doesn't mean they're not 'gettable'.. he cant be happy with Bevo at the moment.. he can roll out the team line and say hes happy to play a role for the team, but the blokes a jet and should be played in the position he is elite.. we could give him that opportunity to be the No.1 man in the middle..

And how do you propose we satisfy them in a trade? Keeping in mind we can't trade our first this year or next.

If he doesn’t want to play out of position then I wouldn’t be coming to Essendon 😂

We can trade 1sts if we get another one in.. there's more than one way to skin a cat.. smarter people than me can come up with the hypotheticals..

The dogs are happy with 2 second rounders for elite talent in their prime :tearsofjoy:
Whilst I like that, we only have one second round pick atm...

The question has been asked a million times in the last 48 hours but feel we have one more crack next year, with, or without Joe Daniher.

We have topped up and come to far with the list to all of a sudden go mini re build. We need to hope/pray that our list can finally get a healthy run at it as a group. Continuity with the top 30 players is what we are missing.

If all the players buy into it, we could maybe set the foundations to bigger and better things for the future of this group. We need to be bold though, make definitive decisions on certain players and back in the group we go forward with.

- contracts -
--------------

Josh Begley (Delist) - Been on the list for four years, not close to consistent senior selection even despite ACL injury. Time to move on.
Tom Bellchambers (Retire/Delist) Thanks for everything TBell but the club has found the new guy and its the perfect time to be respectable and hang the boots up.
Hanry Crauford (+1 year) I like what he can do. Would like to see him for a game or two in the seniors by years end. Has something.
Joe Daniher (+ 2 years) - A lot of our game plan and expectations revolve around this guy. If we can hold onto him for even one more year, that'd be enough for me.
Martin Gleeson (+ 1 year) Good depth in a position we have many young players in.
Noah Gown (+ 1 year) With the likely compromise of the draft, it saves him and gives him one more year.
Brayden Ham (+ 2 years) tracking nicely. Keep.
Kyle Langford (+ 3 years) - Becoming one of our most important players.
Jayden Laverde (+ 1 year) Same boat as Noah Gown. Fed up with the injuries with the compromised draft the only thing saving him.
Andrew McGrath (+ 3 years) An important cog in our midfield.
Shaun McKernan (delist) enough said
Irving Mosquito (+ 1 year) Long term prospect on the cusp of senior selection. Give him one/two years and he will prosper.
Kobe Mutch (delist) Another who has been around the cusp for a few years and even with injuries has struggled to cement his place.
Jordan Ridley (+ 5 years) Would be close to leading out best and fairest. Stud! Give the boy what he wannts.
Adam Saad (+ 3 years) Another who has been one of our best and most consistent players.
James Stewart (+ 1 year) Another who has struggled with injury (31/73 games) in recent seasons.

Mitch Hibberd (rookie - delist) if we aren't going to use him in the role he did well in last year, don't bother holding a spot on the list for him.
Tom Hird (Cat B rookie - + 1 year) long term injury, give the talented bloodlines one more year and see whay he has.
Cian McBride (Cat B rookie) developing irishman who is still essentially a free hit.
Ross McQuillan (+ 1 year) Has been the best of the irishman, could evenn debut?
Will Snelling (upgrade - + 2 years) Has shown to be a valuable contributor to our side.
Jacob Townsend (delist) thanks for coming and doing, something. But thats it.

Wouldn't be surprised to see us downgrade a Noah Gown or Dylan Clarke who is contracted but both are a fair way off.

Probably forgotten players in these lists at the bottom of this post but whatevs. haha
Anyways, breaking the list down, we could still use 2 x big bodied midfielders, 1 x utility (def/fwd). Would go best available later in the drafts, no need to go fancy this year.

Anyways, thoughts?!?
Surely McGrath makes your best 22?

I dunno, I just feel as if we're getting slightly raped on the Parish/Constable swap. Other than that I dont mind it.

Going forward we are going to need Merrett to play a lot more wing on one side with Langford holding the other wing or paying half forward.
At various times one of McGrath , Sheil or Parish will have to have stints in the forward line.
That will allow us to bring in a couple of mid size to tall midfielders into the rotation.
Going forward Clarke will have to make it as a defensive half forward. Our disposal has enough issues without adding him into the midfield mix.
We have to think about who will suite the game plan so it may not be a big slow midfielder we need but more the hard running 185-188 cm type who is okay pace wise.

We seriously need to talk Hooker and Hurley. imo Hooker needs to retire at the end of this year and Hurley the next. It will free up a big chunk of cap space to find replacements.

I don't think we can go on with both of them. Hooker's body is shot and there's no point in him playing half another season at reduced capacity. Hurley is similar but probably gets another year as he can still move a little better.

We have to have trust in Zerk, Ambrose, Francis, Ridley holding the fort going forward and we need to find another big defender.

If Hooker goes this year we should have decent cap space to go after a free agent. Hurley and Zaka the year after should give us an option also. We need to be aggressive and again we are at crossroads. Lets see if we have the balls to make the big decisions.
