Im a big supporter of a single grand final , but also a supporter of that granny being played in the deserved teams home state. The MCG will hold the granny for another truck load of years, the AFL extended that contract by one year to make up for MCG missing out this year. The only way we will see a Granny outside of the MCG will be a best of three grand finals..

Basketball is much less physically demanding. Look at how many games / year they play compared to NFL.

MLB, NHL, and NBA are capable of handling back-to-back-to-back games because of the nature of the games.

NFL, AFL the players wouldn't be able to maintain for a series that would need to happen over a single week.

Starting pitchers in baseball aren't allowed to play back to back games cause of how demanding that is on the arm/shoulder

To be fair, AFL admin also have their heads up their arses for locking the GF in at the G for the next umpteen years, let alone the reports that the Vic govt dictated to them they couldn't host it in NSW this year.

Not at all , not until somewhere else can match the G for crowd size , so be it. Fair enough by the VIc gov as NSW has never done anything to help Aussie Rules , certainly never done anything for us.

The size of the stadium is irrelevant when it's hosted in the same venue every year. Plenty of fans can't make it due to cost or travel but so long as 100k Victorians can have their grand final I guess that's all which matters

It’s the height of ignorance arrogance short sightedness and cronyism that afl would LOCK MCG as permanent GF fixture for 50 years in what is supposed to be a national competition. It just might be that 30 years from now Sydney will be the afl centre of the country.

Bottom line they want a national competition for VIC ego only not in genuine interest of nationalising the game. All part of this vic centric bias that undermines the AFL completely ......biased umpiring, biased afl administration giving bans to us for following the rules, biased finals venues. Unless there is genuine change it will always be a vic competition

In our Grand Finals i have run in to so many people that follow the Swans /WC etc. Plenty of other people apart from Vics get a chance to go .

With 100k people there's going to be many people from the other states, but even if there was a 120k cricket stadium in Brisbane the Grand final still wouldn't be moved. More importantly why would a state government fund a stadium that large when they know they can't host the biggest event?

Stadium size is less relevant when only around 35-40% of tickets are club members for the two playing teams at the MCG. The rest is corporate, AFL members, MCC members and a spattering of others.

Reality is if you held the Grand Final or one of the legs at say Homebush then you’d probably end up with as many, if not more actual club members attending (despite the stadium being smaller).

AFL will always be Vic based until:

- Vic clubs fold and there are more non-Vic clubs
- Non-Vic states bring in substantially more money
- Somehow in the next 20 years the AFL becomes soccer levels of international
- Aliens land and the only way to stop them is through an elite best of 3 series of space ball which is AFL for aliens and we win with a Franklin shot from 75m out after the siren*

And it ain't gonna be that way. And since the MCG has the biggest capacity in the country, is located in the heart of the AFL and is one of the best oval statidums in the world, it will stay there. And honestly, my issue isn't the MCG having the Grand Final, my issue is that like 4 teams use it as their home ground. That pisses me off
