Correct alfo, basically saying if Geelong can turn around a 23 (?) y.o player that 'at times' could not hit the side of a barn in one preseason, then surly we can turn Dow 20 y.o around in 2-3 preseasons.
If no improvement at all by end of next, then maybe he is a bust??
The risk we run, keep him on and hope, or trade him out this year while a team wants him.

We've got picks to trade to bring in players.
There is absolutely no need to trade out our young talent.
Depends on how much quality we want to bring in. We only have 1 first-round pick this year and 1 next.
Sometimes you've got to give something to get something.

Not sure if its been mentioned already, but with Special K choosing to hang up the boots, I'd pitch the Suns a 2nd rounder for Will Brodie and 2MP.

They're likely to pay out some of Wright's contract and he's a talented kid stuck in his development. Gives us a third big man on the list - potentially a medium term replacement for Levi as a 2nd ruck. Worst case, he gives us backup in the ruck/forward for when we punt Moore and are a big man or two down in the reserves.

Brodie looks like he needs a good change up but has talent and commitment in spades. On Dew's wrong side for whatever reason but - with the Brodie connection here already - he could be a great fit for us.

I can see the logic in 2MP. Would be a good replacement for Casboult.

Not sure about Brodie despite his talent. He'd be playing the same role as Cripps and Setterfield. We've also got Kemp, Stocker, Dow and Kennedy who aren't getting regular games too.

Outside run should be the priority IMO :)

I'm not particularly keen on either. Wright's supposedly on $500k, so he'll be going cheap (in terms of trades) on the proviso that his new home takes on his deal. Brodie I have no idea what he's on but I would think that it's not unreasonable the pair combined could be $900k for two blokes who might not be in the 22. I don't think another big bodied, slower, inside midfielder is what we really want (it's a bit different with an established player like Wines or Viney rather than a younger 'potential' guy like Brodie) and would Wright even get a game when more than 4 of Charlie, Harry, TDK, Mitch, Levi, Pitto and Jack are fit?

If that $900k is burning a hole in our pocket, surely we can do better. * could definitely consider that package deal, I don't think we need either player.

Agree - could get 2MP cheap. I'd be backing in one of Dow/Kennedy or Kemp stepping up in 2021 OR playing a mix of Walsh (should be ready), Williams (if we get him, would want to play there) and Martin as the third guy. No more playing the same 3 mids for most of the game.

Change it up, Teaguey!

Still, if Brodie came cheap, I'd rather him become a gun on our list than the Suns or someone elses.

I don't overly disagree, just raising the question. Kind of over seeing the 'trade Dow, SPS' and 'Papley this, Papley that' talk. Neither of these things are likely to happen come September.

Is he?

Never been All Australian.

Only kicked 3 goals since round 8.

Plays for free kicks.

Dodgy disposal by foot.

Only averaging 11 disposals per game.
This is the last I'm going to talk on this subject because I'm getting over it.
18 teams would take Papley tomorrow, how many would take Dow (off current showing)?

There are 17 clubs who would pick up the phone if we decided to get rid of Dow.

Everyone would take Dow as a developing midfielder on their list.

Explosive pace. Excellent ball winner at the stoppages.

He has the attributes to be an A grader. Just because he's been struck down with injury this season doesn't change the fact that he has the talent and attributes to be a very good player.

Wright and Brodie honestly make zero sense...a case of people just throwing money and draft picks everywhere because they like a player without actually looking at where they fit in the grand scheme of things.

Where would Wright fit in? He's been inconsistent over his career and hasn't been in GC's senior team for a long time now. Even if you take Casboult out, we have McKay/Curnow/TDK/Gov/JSOS to fit in. But I think there's every chance Levi will stay with us at this point in his career.

Brodie is no different to the likes of Dow/Stocker on our list as young, inside mids who have potential but are unproven...what's the point?

Neither are best 22 and both are unproven at AFL level in terms of consistent high level performances.

As you said, if we're going to spend $900k, these 2 would be a horrible investment for that money but both fit player types that Essendon need. It would actually be shocking list management on our part and i'm surprised a few people think it's a good idea.

I’ve got a couple of theories....

He was flying as the main man in the syd forward line when they had no KPFs

Don’t underestimate the effects of Clarkson’s comments after he won a free kick.

I’d me more than happy to exchange our first this year for him. Nothing more and no pick swaps either

Pick 10-13 or see you later

If I am Peter Wright and see myself as a Fwd that can ruck, there is no chance i am coming to a side that already has Harry Mckay and Charlie Curnow.. He needs to find a club where he will play and get opportunities and we are not that club..

You really don't seem to rate Papley...

Yeah he's in a form slump at the moment. Honestly i wouldn't be surprised if it's because he's already checked out of Sydney. We've seen that happen in the past to players when they're already sure they want to leave at the end of the season. First 8 or so rounds he was on fire and leading the coleman.

Last month or so aside, he's been probably the second best small forward in the AFL behind Charlie Cameron over the last few years.

There is zero grounds to compare him to Dow that's for sure.

There is no logic in Peter Wright coming to Carlton for both him or our club. Same with Brodie.

Has probably done us a favour and saved us an additional 1st round pick.. Liam Ryan is the best small forward in the game though..

alfo if you love Papley so much, go support Sydney.

Fair point.

However, Teague has shown a tendency to play three tall forwards. He might back himself to push McGovern out of the side and play as a part time forward/ruck.

But your point is very valid. He should be looking at a team like Collingwood, Essendon or even Hawthorn who don't have the greatest KPF stocks for greater opportunity.
