***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

It would be absurd if they did. Would effectively nullify the Shiel trade. They’d be more or less back to square one minus the first rounders they paid to get Shiel.

They should have gone to the draft and rebuild years ago.

They should move on Merret, Daniher and Saad, and see what they can get for Hurley or anyone else of value and go into an aggresive rebuild

Topping up what they have will see them stranded in the no man's land.

6000 days is fast approaching

Saad wanted to join in 2017 but wasn't happy with the clubs offer, and when his manager came back to re-negotiate and we pretty much said take it or leave.

Interesting to see what happens this time around.
Hopefully we stand firm on whatever our offer is again ... as long as it is reasonable and fits in with other contracts we already have.

A 26yro looking to join his third club should not be holding the new club to ransom, he will be out the door at the end of his contract ... as soon as a better offer comes along.

First this year, first and second next year for Merret and Saad?
There is some Merrett in the suggestion, the price makes me Saad

Very true.

I have mentioned it several times.

McGov is NOT out of contract this year as many seem to think & Footywire is not a reliable source for checking Player contracts.

Easy enough to check this thread ...

There's always wriggle-room when negotiating contracts, adding clauses, triggers etc. To provide a blanket 'no' without exploring other options is pretty disappointing. His arc of improvement at Essendon indicates his manager's demand for a bigger contract were probably reasonable.

Sounds like he's weighing his options up for a number of reasons; financial and general malaise at the current situation at Essendon. They don't like they'll be pushing for finals any time soon, and if things really go pear-shaped next year they maybe have to do a mini-rebuild of their own. If we were going to offer a contract I'd aim for a longer team deal.

IIRC Saad and his family are/were big Carlton supporters too, which may just add another 10%

Is it 800k per season? If so, could be a very bad contract

We signed McGovern to a 5 year contract? On around 800k? FMD

I genuinely don't believe this is the case - it's mainly Bigfooty chinese whispers.

Do we really think the club'd take his 550k pa deal and tack on another 250k?

Granted we've given big contracts in the past to someone like Curnow, I can't imagine it being the case. IIRC it's mainly been Riccuito insinuating he's on a truckload, but he'd have no idea of the extent of his contract with Carlton.

Would already assume some negotiations happened, we don't just write a number on a piece of paper and slide it across the table in Hollywood gangsta/lawyer style and say take it or leave it.

Would need to be a fair gap between the expectations of both parties for us to say this is the final offer and he walks. Comfortable if this is the case, we don't want to ruin the make up of the list for one player.

2020 first = 7
2021 first = 15-17 (if we get Saad, Williams, Witherden, Graham)

😉🙏

I
2 x first rounders is better than 2 x first and a second. Merrett not quite worth 2 x firsts and Saad not worth a first, more like an early second. Two firsts for the both of them seems more reasonable.

Having said that Dodo likely to ask 2 x firsts for Saad and then more for Merrett. That bloke is crippling their club through a combination of stubborn and delusion ... gotta love his work.

Just don't get how * has trumped us for players.... beyond the drugs there surely must be something else back door being provided to these players! Sure we've not been great but at least we won a final 7 years ago, we have a great training ground, great history and a glorious jumper!

Don't know why Saad ever went to them! Shiel will regret being conned by Williams!

That was the intel from one of the ITK's. He wasn't top of the list, but essentially it looked like our valuations were poles apart from the outset and we didn't spend a lot of time on it, mainly due to working out a deal for Gibbs and Essendon's offer dwarfing ours.

Nobody actually knows how much it was and also was it heavily front loaded as we had a lot of salary-cap space.

The term of the contract isn't any surprise, nobody is moving to a club on a 2 year deal.
