Science/Environment Wuhan Coronavirus (COVID-19) - HCQ doesn't work - Part 3

This thread is continued in Part 4:

Do you have stats on Melbournians waiting for test results who are trying to get into country Vic?

The 'dickhead' narrative is getting out of hand. This isn't your A game, Ned.

No-one is allowed to go into country Victoria. There is history of people doing it in numbers large enough to spread the virus. We don't need the "Stats" we have the previous results.

I look at the British Prime Minister and I look at the average Joe walking around Melbourne and health wise I don’t see any difference between him and 50% of the average Joes. And COViD put him into ICU. There’s nothing abstract about the idea that the situation he found himself in, could apply to large swathes of the general population. And whilst the restrictions are onerous, I’d prefer that to suffering Boris’s fate. And I’m sure I’m not alone on that front.

You really don't understand stuff do you?
Some people got over Polio unscathed as well.

You will find which country tops the deaths per unit population changes frequently. Belgium was at the top once. However if we look at totals the USA, with the most cases and most deaths remains at the top of the table and has done so for a very long time. This is despite spending 18% slice of GDP on health, taken from the worlds biggest fattest cake. There response has been terrible

Then you pick on poor Peru, with a terrible health care system and a GDP which would be just a pimple on USA GDP.

Worst is worst and per-capita is absolutely the way to measure it.
Peru worst is a simple fact , its not "picking on". If you had to name the slowest runner in class , you can avoid naming the crippled kid, but then its a lie.
You have simply stated some of the contributing factors.

The fatality rate is even lower than the powers that be are saying, lots of asymptomatic people out there, good news.

https://www.anu.edu.au/news/all-news/new-blood-test-finds-undetected-covid-19-cases

Researchers at The Australian National University (ANU) have developed a new blood test capturing previous exposure to COVID-19. Initial results suggest many more people have been exposed to the virus in Australia than have been detected so far.

"We screened 3,000 blood samples provided by healthy people around Australia for antibodies to the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2," Associate Professor Ian Cockburn said, who co-led the research with Professor Elizabeth Gardiner.

The new highly sensitive test measures the antibodies that follow previous infection with SARS-CoV-2 and the study was conducted just before Australia's second wave of outbreaks.

"Our best estimate is that around 0.28 per cent of Australians - one in 350 - had been infected with SARS-CoV-2 by that time. This suggests that instead of 11,000 cases we know about from nasal swab testing, about 70,000 people had been exposed overall," said Associate Professor Cockburn.

Researchers found eight in 3,000 healthy people were likely to have been previously infected after accounting for false positives. No one in the study had been identified as COVID-19 positive before.

The researchers say that even with a conservative view of the results, the number translates to potentially around 30,000 people with the virus at that time.

The new blood test, developed by the ANU research team, looks for antibody signatures in blood to find evidence of previous COVID-19 infection.

Can you imagine if we had anti vaxxers and Sovereign citizens then?

You're better off discarding small country outliers, but Peru is a decent size. The GDP per capita is $US7k according to Wikipedia so it's not really a match for the US in resources.

Victorian plan is based on National cabinets suppression strategy to have zero community transmission. Is National cabinet left wing?

Basically nobody can leave the country and basically nobody can come in, even citizens. If that isn't shutting yourself off from the world I don't know what is.

Still seem to be stuck in this circular argument. ”See it wasn’t so bad!!! We didn’t need to do all that!”. It didn’t get that bad because...

Actually it's not circular in the slightest.

If there are two options - course of action W which means x hospitalisations, and course of action Y which means z hospitalisations - then if governments choose to pursue course of action W, then why on earth would you spend for result z?

Look I'm confused if I've just missed something, or you have posted something totally irrelevant, but I don't see national cabinet agreeing to 5km travel limits and night time curfews. I see nothing of the sort.

So much winning with lockdowns. Can't wait to see the August results. But any future cancer deaths won't be shown in daily press conferences in decades to come.

HoW aBouT wE pUt pRo lockDownERs lAST on thE cANcer TreatmeNT WAitINg liST?

The cure is worse than the disease.

Wow. This is just appalling.

And of course the Aztec High Priestesses here, who act like ANY softening of lockdown restrictions is tantamount to sacrificing human lives, will have nothing to say about it.

I don’t think right wing activity is as much a contributor as general lockdown fatigue leading to lower compliance in the repeat stage 3.

I see the posts on this forum by absolute nutjobs trying to claim that this virus is just another flu, and that the Victorian premier is akin to Chairman Mao and Hitler at the same time for trying to suppress the infection.
This is driven by right wing activists. Stuff like that has an effect. People think they can ignore the rules because its only the flu.

The real message: that this lockdown is saving lives and the economy probably is getting stale though. The Victorian government probably needs new and varied ways of promoting the message though. Vietnam did this well, and of course Victoria has a strong history of having the best public messaging ijn the country - eg "Dumb ways to die" and road safety ads.

They couldn’t possibly be certain how many hospitalisations would result from their course of action. They’d never been in such a situation. This is a once in a century pandemic, and they had no crystal ball. Prepare for the worst.

Well how do you achieve zero community transmissions from position we were in?

So, they chose the most extreme form of locking people up in their homes - Lockdown - but then also prepared for an extreme number of hospitalisations?
Doesn't make sense.

Preparing for an extreme number of hospitalisations made sense if you allowed people to carry on their lives as normal.

CovidCraziness is definitely a thing. Usually full of far-left hate for the usual suspects (ie America, Britain, English lol).

This theory definitely explains Belgium's appalling death rate, or the mass casualties in Italy and Spain.

You show me where there are any restrictions on going to the doctor or hospital ?

The fact people are avoiding it is because they are scared of catching covid.
If we were doing your let it spread' garbage then testing would be down to a trickle

The real message: that this lockdown is saving lives

Ah. The simpleton's messaging that is so awesome in Victoria seems also to be working on you.

Let me add my magic to your statement: "that this lockdown is saving lives from Covid, but other lockdowns which are not as oppressive have also saved lives from Covid, and that prevention may also be achieved to a great extent with social restrictions, but that we simply don't know yet longer term how many lost life years will be attributed to this lockdown from all other causes".

Should people be delaying cancer testing because they are scared of catching Covid, where 40-80% of cases are asymptomatic, and even of those with symptoms, most are very mild?

Are you not questioning why they are fearful to that extent? Certainly not rational behaviour if they have other pressing health issues.

UK dentists were closed for 3 months. How appalling.

Despite this, some patients have been unable to find treatment.

Lucinda Beesley, 40, from Hatfield in Hertfordshire, has been suffering after she lost a crown more than a week ago.

"I am in a lot of pain. I can't eat, I've been surviving on soup. I tried to fix it myself with a temporary kit, but that's made it worse", she says.

Even though she was given the numbers of two local dentists by NHS 111, Ms Beesley says that both practices told her that they don't intend to open on Monday.

"I've been told lots of different things, given numbers of different people", she says.

"I am feeling desperate".

Similar story in Victoria. That people have not been able to see a specialist is appalling.

Ms Mikakos said the state would also resume a staged return of other health services like dental visits and specialist medical appointments.

Dental and allied health service restrictions are due to ease in Melbourne from September 28, with dentists able to perform non-urgent examinations and services.
