Barry Young played 76 games for Essendon from 1994-1999, arriving the year after and departing the year before Essendon won premierships. In 1993 Young played the last of his five seasons at Richmond (which ran second last) before being a surprise delisting at the end of the year, 1993 premiers Essendon picking him up in the 1994 pre-season draft. In his career at Essendon he played in a Bombers semi final team in 1995 that was eliminated by the Tigers, and two one point losses in preliminary finals in 1996 and 1999. Due to salary cap restrictions Young crossed to Hawthorn for the 2000 season, while the Bombers went on to claim the premiership that year.
He actually had the last kick into the Bombers forward line in the 1999 prelim. It spilled off a pack and Dean Rice threw the ball on his boot to clear it back out of the 50 only to find the waiting arms of Dean Wallis. The rest as they say....is history.
