I’ve had fun being a Port fan this season. Shitty year but these blokes put a smile on my face.

Fun fact.

Geelong have never won a final outside Victoria.
They would have except for Nick Davis - hopefully it doesn't get as close as that next week......

In this crazy year where there haven't been big scores , there haven't been massively dominant forwards and it has come down to want and desire, pressure fitness and closeness of the group we are a serious god damn contender.

Is our best good enough. Yes.

Three to go.

Under the current finals system, what's been the numbers of the top team winning the flag and making the GF?

6 won the flag - Essendon 2000, Port 2004, West Coast 2006, Geelong 2007, Collingwood 2010, Hawthorn 2013

8 made the GF but lost - Essendon 2001, Geelong 2008, St Kilda 2009, Collingwood 2011, Hawthorn 2012, Sydney 2014, Sydney 2016, Adelaide 2017

6 were knocked out in a prelim - Port 2002, Port 2003, Adelaide 2005, Fremantle 2015, Richmond 2018, Geelong 2019

Another fun fact, this will be our 4th final against Geelong, which is the most we've played against any team. Won in 2004, lost in 2007 and 2013.
Yes, and if we get Brisbane and/or Collingwood later in the finals it will be our 4th final against them too.

Footscray are the only team in this year's top 8 that we haven't yet played a final against.

Wow only 6 times in 20 seasons. It’s pretty much an even chance between the Top 3 going on history.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the board like this before. The vibes are immaculate. If this is how I feel about a minor premiership I’m going to flip my lid if we can go all the way this year. Right now it just feels like I can finally dare to dream.

For 3rd to win the flag requires some special circumstances.
2003 Brisbane and 2015 Hawks were triple heavyweight champions
2005 Sydney beat WCE when they were in the middle of those single digit margins against each other
2012 Sydney were finals battle hardened, 9th finals series in 10 years
2017 Richmond never left the MCG - played 2nd Geelong in the QF at the MCG
2019 Richmond battle hardened playing 6th final series in 7 years beat Brisbane in QF who hadn't played finals for 10 years then never left MCG and beat 6th GWS not 1st Geelong (beat them in PF at MCG).

It would be great if there was some sort of incentive and reward for this rather than a who cares cup. Finishing top after regular season is an achievement worth commending.
This.
I've always felt that a minor premiership is just that - an achievement for a body of successful work across an entire minor round season.
I always respected our McL trophy wins, as I did for every team that finished in that position.
Yes the finals rounds are the creme de la creme, but to be the best team across the lead up rounds is an excellent achievement, and whoever achieves that should be celebrated much more than they currently are.

Pitty it's not like the EPL would of just won our 4th AFL flag lol.
It’s up to us to give such a feat its proper recognition.

Well we’ve finished top and one the last game in September! Any other year and we would be partying right now

I’m partying, mate. No idea what you’re talking about...
