Will any of the talls be available at our picks? Seems to be 5-6 top end talls that could go top 10 but surely some clubs will pick mids or other types that could push one to our pick 11. Maybe Denver Grainger-Barras is that man?
Using early picks on key defenders 2 years in a row may seem a bit odd but if they are quality players we could build or team around a strong defense. And perhaps 1 of them ends up forward anyway

if he is there ..for sure..but he will be gone

Few players who leave Geelong flourish elsewhere.* Varcoe did but is getting old.

*someone will prove me wrong

I suppose Caddy but He was kind of shipped out & though he hoped for more midtime he basically fell into the same role he was playing here... but hey he got 2 flags so far.

I’ve had this theory for a while that if you want to get out because of a lack of playing time, development, want a different environment, basically feel you’re good enough but can’t break in at all or even just can’t break into the right role then leave after 2-3 years, I think you're less likely to fall into the 23rd player position which I think hurts development as much as anything.

Our 7 for your 15 & 16. Yes or No?
500 points difference to allow for slippage.
1644 <> 1112+1067 ... 535 ... is too much id think . I suspect that deal would need some sort of balance to it like a some futures picks ... unless it was in draft and a certain player was at 7 that we really liked.

Lets say a tall is still there... Carlton do not need any more talls ... then that type of deal would be considered

I suspect they see it as trying to make the best22 as strong as possible .. development is all well and good ..and we will develop some players but there is a lot of wastage in drafting ... if we say we have drafted 30 selection in the last 4 drafts .. how many will be best22 players that will give us 10 game ..40 games 100 games..?

Meanwhile we drafted several kids 2 or 3 years ago that will probably not be around next year ..as they just have not been able to show enough quick enough when our side is strong.

For every Ablett thre is probably a Steven , a Clark , a Hmac so I agree its hardly a perfect approach. No doubt we may draft someone with a pick used to get someone like Higgins who would be a much better long term player, perhaps a Menegola ... but we may also draft a House or a Zac Guthrie..

Yeah, it's a raffle, but picking up an old guy who'll probably only give us one season just doesn't outweigh the potential to uncover some talent in someone younger for the long term, imo.

Yeh, I’ve heard you trot out “I work in the system” a fair bit on here....you have an opinion like anyone else. What I said was “he could” not “he will” become captain. He’s been touted to be of captaincy material - he captained Vic Metro - so the statement isn’t “absurd” at all. He may not get there but if we are going to look at him I believe it will be largely due to his leadership abilities as well as his playing abilities. That is not unreasonable.

That is where we disagree. It is very important to have good character but if we are going to look at him it will be almost all about how good he is as a player. The character part is more just a tick off that he's not dodgey.

Through a weird coincidence, every club to have won a premiership since we last won one has had an ex-Geelong player involved.

Sydney had Mumford in 2012.
Hawks had Simpkin in one of their threepeat teams.
Bulldogs had Hamling in 2016.
Richmond had Caddy in 2017 and 2019.
West Coast had Vardy in 2018.

Although tbf none of the guys listed above, with the exception of Mumford, were crucial elements of those premierships.

Its a reasonable approach... the draft offers hope and renewal ... and this mature approach is almost the footy version of life support.... but have alook at the players we are likely to pick in the range of the pick value we are talking about..
To me thats he key it gets down to how you assess the player you will likely pickup ... One season .. one 100% agree... One would be hoping for an ablett type return of games 40plus ... meanwhile we have seen a Close this year and what he can bring

None whatsoever, Danger is not much better by foot and he is a superstar, Crouch is an extractor and exactly what we need, midfield grunt.

The issue for me is exactly your point because he isn't Danger. You can afford to play people who can't kick if they are exceptional elsewhere. Not sure Brad is but happy to be proven wrong if he comes to us. I do agree with some other comments on here that mids who get it a lot when they play almost always on ball are dime a dozen. Anyone gets a lot of the ball in the middle as there is no defending apart from zones

Oh that's a definite annoyance, but, I also know if he's the one dishing it out, then it won't be as much of an annoyance. He's also pretty quick off the mark, which a lot of people don't realize.

Thought he'd be a better fit at Richmond due to their emphasis on getting the ball forward at all costs, but still think he'd add something as a contested bull in the middle allowing Danger to go forward, and Guth, Menegola, Parf and Duncan to provide run and good disposal

Yeah I guess for me it's about what we pay and what we give away if anything. Not that we can get him but if I'm going for a mid bull who doesn't kick it well I want Viney everyday of the week. At least Viney has some Selwood about him. So again if we don't give up too much I won't mind getting brad

1. Some Vic Metro captains don't even get drafted so you can chill about that.

2. I only referenced working in the system because you asked if I even know anything about him. Not sure why it annoyed you so much.

3. You are right I only have an opinion and nothing else. It is probably based on more information than some because it's what I do but it isn't more relevant than anyone else's.

4. I just think hyperbole like that statement is silly. It's just my opinion but to go from was Metro captain to not playing too much for GWS to could captain Geelong one day is a fair bit of a stretch but we are all entitled to our opinions. I am just not a big fan of extreme suggestions to back up points but that is jusyt me.

really ..like who ? IF most KPF are 197 and over .. I dont see anyone going forward bar Blitz

Henderson is 196 Harry 193. I might be wrong but outside of Blicavs & Harris Andrews who are the KPDs that push 200cms but aren’t athletic liabilities?

Kolo plays key position or he shouldn’t be here, he’s not a third tall.

Trouble is, Higgins will almost be on life support himself if / when he gets here 😊

Or maybe it's Viney

Crouch we've been linked with for a while - Viney seems to be the surprising one
Players don't tend to announce until the season of their club of choice has wrapped up.

So I'm not expecting any announcements from Cameron/Viney/Higgins/Crouch until after our last game.

If any of the players linked to us holds a presser before our season is done, 99% chance we didn't get them.

For the first two I suspect we'd be low balling their contracts, I think Constable would be worried that another 12 months with little exposure at AFL level and decreasing list sizes ends his AFL career at the end of next year.

I don't think we are lowballing them as such but I think it's more we can't guarantee them gametine and the stage of their career they are at they need regular gametime if they can get that at another club.

if he is there ..for sure..but he will be gone

I think McDonald will definitely be gone..tilthorpe probably will be..but there's some other talls I'd be keen on that might be available at our picks..chapman/cox/Reid etc.

Absolutely.. I can't see any of those guys or daniher announcing until their destination club has finished it's season. Which means in big Joe's case the longer he waits the more chance his destination club isn't Sydney.

Daniher is touring Brisbane's facilities shortly.
