Tell me something, do you think 7 don't put Freo and WC on because they want to stick it up them, or because of money?
A bit of both. If they were smarter they would give West Aussie teams Friday night games against the larger Vic clubs at Optus or MCG. If it is at Optus they would sell out, if at the MCG they would only get large crowds from the more successful clubs.

To be fair, you did start this with your misplaced comments saying Fremantle should fold, while also maintaining you don't want any clubs to fold.

Has been enjoyable to watch you get hit over the head post after post.

No doubt, being the noob you are, you will just go to a new thread and pick this same argument.

Hence your belief 'this has been going on for your'.

What you fail to realise, is YOU are the problem.
Go away child, i just realised who i am talking to, you are right i am a noob, wasting my time talking to you, i should have realised sooner.

What?
TV is not about crowds.
Of course it is. Would you rather watch an empty stadium with an elite game playing....or a full stadium of screaming fans??? The team plays better , the viewers enjoy it more and the AFL make tons of money. Silly question.

It's because the clubs want their supporters to be able to get to the game, which is scheduled to begin to suit Victorian time

Lol it's sort of problematic though, when you guys are 2 hours behind the rest of the country for the majority of the season (3 hours in the March-April period)

If broadcasters scheduled the game at 7 PM - to give enough time to those who finish at 6 - it wouldn't start here 'til 9 and there'd be substantially less viewers.

Victoria is pretty much the heart of AFL, and consistently the biggest Melbourne clubs are the one's that draw the biggest crowds and the most viewers.

It would probably be viable to schedule the match whenever you wanted, and then just have 7 in WA broadcast the match earlier, but then they'd most likely lose a substantial amount of viewers from all the other states - because some wouldn't even get home 'til after 7.

It's also difficult scheduling a match at 5 or 6 as the News media pretty much owns the 2 hours from 5-7 - in all states, including WA. There's no chance that they would ever allow that, so the only time a match could start would be at 7PM for you guys. That would mean during daylight savings, that your match wouldn't start 'til 10PM in most states, and then finish after midnight - that's not possible, especially when bars, Foxtel, Kayo etc would lose a ton of business across Australia. Not to mention the advertising losses, commercial losses etc etc.

It's tough balancing an equitable viewing fixture, but when you look at it objectively, it's not really plausible to have WA games in 'prime time' slots (Thursday, Friday, Saturday), due to the unique time difference between WA and the rest of Australia

It's just the way it is.

All clubs paid off docklands.

The AFL paid off 225m to buy docklands early. That money was generated from the TV rights deal which made the purchase possible.

Marvel tennants played there, on a bad deal (except Essendon) and then were and are compensated via unequal distribution.

You can't have it both ways "St Kilda get the extra 10's of millions in dividend to compensate for the poor stadium agreement and is therefore justified" and "St Kilda/North paid off the stadium".

Logically, if AFL is compensating North and St Kilda through the dividend, that is money NOT paying off the stadium, as it goes straight back into the club.

Which one is it?
TV rights... those same TV rights where the WA games rate poorly?

The same TV rights St Kilda are part of? So they contribute twice?

They don't rate poorly, in fact I believe that the Eagles are in top 5 for aggregate FTA audience in the league.

Let me put it this way, what would the competition be missing if St Kilda was no longer part of it? Not much.

What would the the competition be missing if there was no WA team? The answer is approximately 150K club members (15% of the total AFL number of club members) and 850K attendance per year.

Let's not try and put St Kilda (and North) on equal footing with either of the WA clubs, it really doesn't pass the sniff test.

If talking about TV rights
Based on 2019 figures according to OzTam, and not counting finals the AFL season had ~42 million viewers

20 million of those came from Victoria (10 clubs)
22 million from the other 4 states (8 Clubs)

Can draw your own conclusions about what that means in terms of contributions to TV rights value

26 million people, 5 thousand OzTAM boxes.they may as well just ask a 5 year old how many people watched the footy last night in Australia and his guess will be as accurate.

And they have lower rates of making 50 games.
There was a stat a few years ago that kids drafted from SA spent more time on AFL lists, and played more games on average than kids from any other state. Not sure if that's still the case.
Point is that kids from Vic get preferenced in the draft over kids from SA and WA, when stats show they probably shouldn't.

Not to mention the amount of money the AFL puts into funding Vic talent, while doing SFA for SA. It's expected the SANFL and it's club do the lions share.
Now if the AFL was legit, it would make the VFL in charge of talent in Victoria. Let's see how the results of that got borne out.
