At this time of the year, people are allowed to speculate & give their opinion!

And to speculate and adjudge upon the speculation of others. :D

Reds are, always have been, and always will be the best team in the world at everything and the only thing we are not is exaggerators! ;)

Anyways I haven't been keeping up with the info but I would love to see Reds make the finals. They may. They may not. I wouldn't have a clue how good any of the other clubs are!

Good to see a bit more banter on the forum! Carey faithful are surprisingly quiet after pumping up their tyres last year which supports the rumours they're looking very strong this year.

Camberwell are C-Grade specialists who dont have the bite or winning mentality to win the big games. They're always January premiers, but i cant see them doing much more than making up the numbers.

I think we can safely say the teams to beat will be Ormond and Whitefriars. Top 4:

Ormond
Whitefriars
Carey
Reds

I stand corrected on the Blacks

Kangaroos and Western Bulldogs have changed their name of recent but they are still North Melbourne and Footscray.

VV

Err...no they're not, and the Sydney Swans aren't South Melbourne either.

A closer consideration of the Fitzroy Reds' surge in playing numbers, latent support and success in the past 6 years would have to conclude that the breaking away from Melbourne University and adoption of the Fitzroy name, locale and suburban character is prime reason for the club being in a far stronger position than it was a decade ago.

At this stage of the (PRE) season, each club should have their reasons for being optimistic.

Geez if Carlton fans can get excited about a 72 year-old being seconded as their president, and start buying memberships like they're going out of style (which they were), then everyone else is entitled to view their cup as half full aren't they?

No firm decision on Vic Park for Reds home games at this stage, I think the City of Yarra will wait until mid-late March to make that call. I can understand the desire of the Fitzroy faithful to keep Brunswick Street as the home ground for seniors/reserves, but a switch would seem logical if the deck doesn't improve. If so, then we may well host Whitefriars in round one as their school ground is in real strife.

Unless the VAFA advises us of a delay in the start of the senior season, then there's only 52 days to go.........

won't be back at Coburg?

I don't think suburban character has anything to do with it. Otherwise your club would be full of hippies, druggies and homeless. That is all Fitzroy is known for.

Fashion, Gardens, Cafes, Lattes.......beautiful part of the world.

Re Carey. Think all this hype of them having all these Scotch footballers jump on board might be just that. Who are these people? nobody has named even one. We know the captain did his knee late last year and will miss 07. Someone said Jessop, Ratcliffe, Battle, Howgate, Bull are all gone. Seems to me that may be not as strong as some think.

Ape Man i'm tipping Ugly would know. Ugly and DG Man are like peas and carrots. Rupo will be very happy to consolidate. No huge predictions here, we go into the unknown again. If Geeves starts on this thread all sides will be in big trouble. He is very astute, very shifty, and loves a cup of tea, strictly no alcohol, would not fit in at Rupo!!!!!

Is it true that the Fitzroy Reds havce been on a recruitment dive in the off season? Is it also true that Old Trinity have lost three of their most over rated footballers in the off season?.......Interesting Fotzroy??

It's common knowledge that several Trinity fellas have joined the Reds, but who are these names you speak of? The over-rated ones I mean.

No need to mention names. Trinity will be all the better for getting rid of those C graders.............Going to where they belong

True JerryCollins, we are on a recruiting dive (sic)

Give us your needy, your poor, your over-rated...

Here at Fotzroy (sic), we take them all.

To paraphrase Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes... "Our love will lift them up where they belong..."

Interesting....

You should have gone for former cricket umpire Steve Randell at least he would have got a touch.

Lest We Forget

Boys,

Trinity has lost many players to the reds...
Some have gone because they think (probably correctly) that they will be able to play senior footy at a lower level with their current skill and application level.

Others who have gone are no loss to the club because they are the ones with some ability, who complain when they dont get picked in the seniors and yet are always the ones who never want to do the full amount of work required to be a senior A grade footballer.

OT's are better off with the current crop of talent who have come through the school system last year along with a sprinkling of recruits, gun players returning and some old war horses who just keep going.

This pre season has never been better.....And the grounds are absolutly superb.

Good luck to The Reds...Scribe I wonder how many former Trinity players will be in the Reds senior lineup in round 1??

Due to work committments, I hear Rupo's fullback N.Webb may struggle to play may more than 5 games this year, this will put a dent in their premiership campaign and finals chances

Peevac,

Come on - you've gone so far to split the ex-OT players who have joined Reds into two categories.

The first were hard working but not up to A grade skill wise, the second were light on for work ethic but more talented.

Care to put some names to your post?

I'm sure the Reds boys (possibly Scribe himself), and other C graders would be interested to see where the new recruits fit in, in your opinion at least. Put your balls on the line mate and back up your assertions.

Oh and Jerry - you too should grow a penis and put some names down - particularly given there's a couple of well respected OT's boys who have left on, what I understand to be, very good terms.

An man who uses such words as you do when responding to an honest discussion belongs in Fitzroy. (Grow a penis...brilliant)

All we are saying at Trinity is once in a while its good to have the rubbish removed without going to the land fill.

Peevac, you made some great points well done on quality writing.

Kind Regards

Happy Trinity Supporter

I would estimate at three would be on line for senior selection early on as flanker pretty keen on them. Understand a few will bob up at Parkdale as well! They also tell me a real good one gone Balwyn way to play ammos.

I thought Balwyn were a Southern FL (prof) team?

All we are saying ...

Ok we understand, Jerry, by your own testimonial you represent an encapsulating group of Trinity people (which we understand you don't have to name) in casting slights at the distant heels of ex-Trinity departees (which we understand you don't have to name), with an air of objective authority (which we understand you don't have to back up), based on their loss to the club being so unremarkable (which we understand you don't have to back up)that their arrival at other, lower-grade clubs, would certainly not attract comment from the remaining Trinity faithful on a discussion devoted to the latter-named tier of the competition. Makes sense to me.

PS: Peevac, you made some great points well done on quality writing.
