So where do you find a big forward as they don't grow on trees.

If losing JoeD then you need to look at more mature types if you want to stay in the frame for 2-3 years time

If not and rebuilding then you don't need a mature one right now you play Laverde, Stringer and J.Stewart and start developing H.Jones in the VFL and give him a couple of games AFL and more if deserved.

Wright, Himmelberg, Carlton key fwd, Esava, McStay, J.Cameron are the players to ask questions to. Brown, Tom MacDonald if it comes to plan H and we've decided we want to contend in 2-3 years time

Bit of a dream scenario here:

Trade pick 6 & future 3rd for Constable, 12 & Geelong 2nd rd this year (33)
This rates Constable at pick 48 (which is unders), but doesn't calculate the value to Geelong of getting Bruhn.

Daniher leaves and we get lucky enough to grab 7 as well, that's a good hand.
Another hail mary would be 29 from Adelaide for Fantasia
Turn 29, 33 & 41 (GCS' 3rd that we hold) into Dogs' 1st. They get a few hundred points, we get another 1st rd.

7 - Phillips
10 - Perkins
12 - O'Driscoll
Remaining picks -> Brand & Eyre
Future 3rd for Wright from GCS

Adds 3x young inside mids, plus Perkins who has some good size and reads like a good wing/mid/flank option
And 2x KPFs in Brand & Eyre from the academy.

our team without the guys 29yo+ moving forward

??? Zerk Francis
Ridley Brand Saad
Langford Shiel Merrett
Smith Stewart Tippa
Stringer Wright Jones
Draper Parish McGrath
O'Driscoll Constable Perkins Phillips

6 for 12 and 33 is terrible considering how far it’ll move back with fa compensation and nga bids.

can't get those players anyway. Whilst it moves back, the players we can get don't change.
We'd be giving up a shot at Bruhn to slide back 6 places (our targets will still be there), adding a somewhat developed inside mid, and picking up collateral to trade into the Dogs' 1st

In terms of FA comp, it's really only Crouch (who i don't think gets the Crows pick 2) & Daniher (we get the pick) we'd need to be worried about.

Ah no later players sometimes don’t get matched, especially this year if they get bid on higher than the club values them, us with mozzie. If they match it means 1 less talented player available. Also Zach Williams, first round comp and the contracts being talked about for Corr and Atkins could mean those clubs get decent compo aswell.

true. But i imagine it's a cold day in hell if JUH gets through to the Dogs without a bid on their 1st pick

On the others, we'll know what they are come trade time as well. So can re-assess the position.
But if there is an option to turn 6 into 11 & 12, even with the slides, i take it. We need depth. And the quality is so unknown outside the top handful this year due to lack of exposure that 2 bites at the cherry is preferable.

in terms of bids & matches, i'm thinking its JUH (has to be bid on by pick 5), Campbell (Swans probably get to use 3 still) and Davies (GCS will get their 1st).

Draft could pan out as (pure speculation of course based on my assessment of needs and Twomey's top 25):
JUH - bid match
Hollands - Crows
Thilthorpe - Crows (If Crouch gets them pick 2)
McDonald - Roos
DBG - Swans
Reid - Hawks
Campbell - Swans match
Phillips - GCS
Bruhn - Cats
Davies - GCS match bid
Macrae - Blues
Jones - Port match
McInnes - bid match
Carroll - Crows
Henry - North
Chapman - Freo

We're then on the board with the next 2 picks with 17 & 18 (which were 11 & 12)
O'Driscoll, Perkins, Jones, Trew, Cox - all still on the board. I'd take two of these vs. 1 of the ones we could have picked. Same applies if one of these is taken earlier and others are available.

We'd also have Constable. And Daniher is still a ? in this scenario

I’m talking about bids from the 2nd round onwards. The 1st round worthy players always get matched. Say this year if a bid comes really early for Gulden,Western or Borlase Etc they might not get matched. Even if a bid comes for Brand much higher than where essendon rates him, we might not match.

There's currently almost a month between trade period and the start of the draft which they could use if they need to push trade period back, but of course the more that trade period is set back the less time recruiting staff have to really go over the draft prospects and figure out what their strategy is.

Ah yep

Not sure Adelaide bid on JUH with pick 1, no one has done it yet and given the marketing that goes with the first selection, i'm not sure Adelaide will this year.

agree. i just put him there based on Twomey's rankings to show where picks might fall.
Zero chance he lasts past the dogs 1st, which is the outcome regardless of where in the top 5 he goes.

wouldnt surprise me if the Crows pull the trigger at 1 to really ping the dogs. Esp if they hold picks 1 and 2

Also, it looks like we've been in contact with Paddy McCartin, doesn't sound like a particularly serious conversation though and we're one of four clubs:

Avoid. If that guy cops another stray frozen pea to the noggin, it's curtains.
Cumulative sub-concussive blows. See Kade Kolojashni trade.

One of my friends knows a few fox footy commentators. There’s truth to the Oliver rumour. But it does look like Carlton are in the box seat for him.

Not sure how they’ll manage Williams, Oliver and Saad. In addition to all the players they’ve just re-signed, and no clarity on what the cap will be, so we’ll see how that goes.
