Will the Tim Kelly trade go down as one of the worst ever ?

He was desperate to get his family home (to West Coast) so they could have the extra support from his and her extended family. Then at the first opportunity he packed them up and took them with him to the hub. So a hotel on the GC is obviously ok but not a nice place in Geelong.

Surely that’s a once in a lifetime haul right there. All of them are Geelong legends and premiership players.

Picks 8, 31, 38, 47. Sometimes you just hit the jackpot.

Wasn't just the '99 draft, the 2001 'Superdraft netted us:

Pick 8 - Bartel
Pick 17 - J. Kelly
Pick 24 - Stevie J
Pick 40 - GAJ (Father-son selection)

2002 Draft gave us:

Pick 7 - Mackie
Pick 24 - Lonergan
Rookie Pick 40 - S. Byrnes

2009 Draft would have been one for the ages, had all of them worked out (genuine star quality before repeat injuries)

Pick 17 - D. Menzel
Pick 28 - Duncan
Pick 40 - Christensen
Pick 42 - Vardy

2016 Draft though, is one of my favourite, as it goes against the whole 'topping up' narrative and it's pretty good thus far - based on Stewart's output alone:

Pick 26 - Parfitt
Pick 40 - T. Stewart
Pick 43 - Ratugolea
Pick 60 - Narkle
Rookie Pick 16 - Henry
Rookie Cat B - O'Connor

Wells has been pretty amazing over the years, and not just with a pick or two - with entire draft hands. We would have fallen a long time ago without him or someone like Dodo

I think the reasons for his drop off is pretty clear here;
  • He cops more attention from taggers at West Coast. At Geelong he had Dangerfield, Selwood, Ablett copping most of the attention.
  • West Coast's midfield doesn't bat as deep. Some mids thrive a sparse midfield while others thrive in a dense midfield full of support. Kelly is the latter.
  • More travel and hubbing. At Geelong he didn't have to travel interstate much. Now at West Coast, he has to travel every fortnight. Add hubbing on top of that, some players are gonna drop off.
So without covid, he likely still would've dropped off for the first two reasons, but there was probably always going to be a drop off playing for a interstate team.

He won 2 out of 3 B&Fs then left while under contract for a club in Queensland, despite being from South Australia.

On the plus side, you did turn it into Jesse Hogan and he's been excellent.
bah, bahh, bahhh

He has set himself and his family up for life now and the hunger has dropped off 10%. That's all it takes.

Really?

Like you really are that dumb you actually posted that?

I said this exact thing early doors and got howled down. Also mentioned after blowing his cover about support structures back home teammates would have been annoyed at his queen bee approach. A lot never got take their families.

You got howled down because what you were saying is plain dumb.

Taking your partner and kids to a hub that the AFL forced club's into for a month is just a little bit different than staying in Geelong for years.

If you can't work that out it says a lot about you.......and not good things.

If performance correlates to happiness... he was was happier at Geelong and cost us way less than he cost you snd has delivered to you so far.

Go Catters
