Tierney wouldn't be isolating now if he hasn't already been deemed to have been in close contact.

Current government advice is that if anyone is in contact with a person that has tested positive then they need to self-isolate for 14 days irrespective of any negative test.

The Scottish FA have today announced that Southampton player Stuart Armstrong has returned a positive test for COVID-19 while on international duty with the Scotland men's national team.

Within the announcement, the SFA confirmed that all other members of the squad have returned negative results.

However, the Lothian Health Protection Team in Scotland have identified two players and two members of the backroom staff as 'close contacts'. As a consequence, our defender Kieran Tierney and Celtic player Ryan Christie - along with one physiotherapist and one masseur - have been advised they will require to self-isolate for 14 days as of yesterday (Tuesday, October 8).

Our medical team have confirmed that Kieran was socially distant at all times from the player who tested positive and has broken no rules regarding COVID-19 protocols. We are currently seeking further advice and clarification of the details.

Kieran has also been in touch and has said: "I'm so disappointed and frustrated to be in this situation. I have adhered to all regulations and made sure I was socially distancing from my team mates in the hotel. I've also tested negative. I know Arsenal and the SFA are now in discussions with the Scottish authorities to gain a further understanding.

The worry for me is that clubs are holding themselves to a different standard as everyone else, they don't want to lose a player for a couple of weeks.

I wonder where they have to self isolate? I'm guessing they can't travel home, do they have to stay in the hotel?

yep. just look at abraham, sancho & chilwell, all attending a party. plenty of unknown contacts.

i think the only way to do international football properly is for all teams to travel on their own aircraft and all players be restricted to the team bubble.

The problem is you have players coming from all over the world a day or two after their club games. England has it lucky in terms of everyone except Trippier plays in the UK... can make it to St George's and then they can take a chartered flight and there is a Hilton at St George's.

If club and national team bubbles are not set up correctly, maybe postponing games for a certain period needs to happen to protect players. Pushing through is pretty reckless.

Without bubbles for sure. It can be done safely, just means spending more money.

Qatar 2022 World Cup is going to be interesting to say the least. If anything, the Covid 19 crisis makes it far more likely that it will still go ahead there, that region seems relatively untouched by the Coronavirus compared to say the USA (which would be the only viable alternate host at this stage)

Imagine the melts from Qatar if it was called off after all the bribes paid and money wasted on infrastructure. Theyve got rona problems there and all those fans in a small country isnt ideal.
