I had this issue last week. Had already made a deposit and when i tried to place the full amount I was told i could only place 10% of what I wanted to.
Fortunately i was able to put the full deposit down in 10x 10% bets. But surely regardless of what their t&c say- you'd win a case at the small claims tribunal for your deposit to be refunded to you if they didn't refund it voluntarily.
You make a deposit in good faith that you will be able to take up their offered odds.
If they change the game and spring a 'surprise, you cant use that deposit on what you wanted, and now your money is trapped'... i can't see how that wouldn't be viewed as estoppel by conduct or misleading conduct by a tribunal.

They can stop money laundering without resorting to not giving a punter any forewarning about being unable to use their deposit as they intend.
I think they are required under legislation for funds to be turned over for ML laws as stated, but agree they should also be compelled to provide visibility if a deposit is made in good faith with the expectation that advertised odds can be bet on without a $1 max bet being applied.

Yep, but their requirement to turn over all deposits does not absolve them of their other legal requirement to not act to mislead customers.
Businesses can't pick and choose which laws they follow and which they don't- there is nothing more special about ML laws than consumer protection and contract law.
It would be a different story if it were technically impossible to notify punters ahead of time that their deposit won't be able to be used as intended.
But clearly it is not technically impossible or exorbitantly expensive to do so- they are simply making a choice not to.
A tribunal or court would probably take a dim view to them relying on the blanket 'all deposits must be turned over' disclaimer in the T&C's, when it's simple enough for them to notify punters beforehand with ballpark or precise limits.
All they would need to do is find that an objectively reasonable person (with knowledge of the blanket disclaimer) would more likely than not be led into the error of thinking they could place a deposit and use it to make their preferred bet.
Given punters are given NO indication they can't make a bet until it's already far too late, you can mount a pretty credible argument to a 3rd party arbitrator.

SB and TAB bonuses back all races. It would have included 4th and 5th placed also with venue mode if not for dictator Dan.

My QLD TAB account has had a few 4th and 5th venue mode offers since the merger, but not every weekend. This weekend for example is all races at Flemington, Randwick and Doomben, but only for 2nd and 3rd.

This time of year is when the offers would have started rolling through. None of us down here have had a chance with venue mode since March. We didn’t get Doomben btw and the corps have stopped adding QLD to the bonus bet back promos.
Yeah that sucks - I assume we're (QLD) getting Doomben this weekend as it's the 'home' race course. Dunno why we didn't get it last week though. QLD only got venue mode for the first time a month or two ago when the merger happened but the offers have been fairly consistent since then.
Betdeluxe have been doing BB back for 2nd and 3rd for all races at 5 meets each Saturday recently if that helps anyone.
I'm pretty sure the laws changed not long ago so that they couldn't enforce the deposit turnover on cash deposits didn't they? Or something to do if you found out you were limited after depositing. I don't know but there was something when there was a crack down on responsible gambling
There was something in there about not being able to force rolls for BB winnings, not sure about deposits. Launderers would be celebrating if true

Yeah it was BB winnings not having to be turned over (I'm not sure if it was at all, or they set a minimum - sum had ludicrous 3x 5x turnover rules).

I know it's to stop laundering but if there are limits placed on your account that don't allow you to reasonably turn over the funds or bet on what they were advertising there is no way they could legally force you to nickel and dime your deposit.
Agree, no issues with deposit turnover as long as there is an additional requirement for corps to provide full transparency on any changes to your account T&Cs before you deposit
