Name some players like Jason Heatley (one season wonders)

Darren Bennett. More well known for his NFL career but he did kick 87 goals in 1990. Might have had a more successful career if the club didn't recruit Jakovich. The club tried to play them both in the same team but it never really worked as they were both lead from the goal square type players.

Mark Dwyer - Number 58 Fitzroy
Superstar during Season 1986
10 votes in the 1986 Brownlow. Played 2 games in 1987 and 1 in 1988 for St.Kilda.

This bloke only played a few games but he looked unstoppable in this season but he didn't look like a footballer at all.
Cost Paul Roos a Brownlow. Roos missed by one vote. Dwyer was the spoiler.

Matthew Lobbe... Had one season where he was probably top 3 ruck in the AFL got himself a plum contract and then proceeded to spud it up so much Port had to trade in Lycett two years later.

Two season wonder.

He went downhill because Port traded in Ryder and he went from a #1 ruck with Trengove backing him up a little bit to sharing it 50/50. Some ruckmen work in tandem, some don't.

i guess adrian mcadam is the default answer for lots of people who remember footy early-mid 90's

as a 22 yo brent heaver kicked 48 for the year alongside kernahan in '93 as a forward/rover. didn't get half as close to that before his career faded after a couple of seasons at port, done with afl by 27.

Hahaha, this is gold. Tom Boyd was an amazing investment, his career obviously didn't pan out as we'd have hoped but to call him a waste of money is hilarious. He's a Bulldogs legend.

Let's be honest, Will Minson would have beaten Naismith.

Ryan Murphy, although he was more a half-season wonder. Played the latter half of 2006 and was a big part of our team that won 9 in a row and ended up in a prelim. Kicked 22.8 in 12 games as a foil for Pav and made a name for himself as a dead-eye. Kicked a total of 19 goals in the following 4 years and then was gone for good. Kicked 50 goals over a 7-year career and almost half of those came in that 2006 stretch. I'm not sure anyone outside of Freo remembers him.

We tried and failed to find a competent tall fwd to put next to Pav over his career and scarily he was possibly the best we had. In 17 years.

EDIT: I know it doesn't jump out as a particularly noteworthy contribution but for context: that year we had our first top 4 finish, our greatest ever winning streak, our first finals win and were a game away from a GF, and none of it may have happened if not for Spud Murphy randomly getting good for a bit.

He looked the goods.

Career got derailed because Freo inexplicably decided to recruit Chris Tarrant for 2007 and play him as a key forward instead of Murphy. Should have backed in their man.

What ever happened to Mark Coughlan?
He wasn't a one year wonder by any stretch but I always remember watching him play and he looked a champion in the making and then he vanished halfway through his career.
He did two or three knees. Very sad. Was being compared with Sam Mitchell as the two gun inside midfielders in the comp at the time.
