Squiggle tips Demons at 77% chance -- What's your tip? -- Team line-ups »
The entire award and night completely lacks substance. Its typical AFL PR nonsense. From the horrendous red carpet, the count itself, the presentation, to the vote itself, it its just a pile of hokey rubbish. I cant watch it, and only switched on with 5 rounds left to see how Trav was going.
The AFL needs a highest individual award but this isn't the way to do it. Perhaps a rotating group of past players and administrators or something, I'm not sure.
But I won't hold my breath waiting. The AFL needs to do a lot of things to improve but is so nailed to its pissy little "traditions" its a joke.
This sport badly needs a Super Lesgue style shake up.
Channel 7 Malbun is a huge part of the problem. They are just so bad, haven't had an original thought on better production in decades and are singularly focused on the Victorian market at the expense of all others.
The coverage of AFL was better for that window when the FTA rights were split between 9 and 10.
Perhaps the umpires need to have a chat with the coaches about what to look for in games.
Remarkably, nine players were declared best on ground this season in the coaches’ votes but didn’t even poll a single Brownlow vote.
Dane Rampe (Round 8), Dom Sheed (R11), Zach Merrett (R11), Ed Curnow (R12), Tom Barrass (R12), Liam Ryan (R15), Nat Fyfe (R15), Nick Haynes (R15) and Tom Rockliff (R17) all polled the maximum 10 coaches’ votes in those rounds.
Walsh's mark was pretty good and better than the other 2 noms. But if that's the best 3 all year it's been a pretty ordinary season.
Unfortunately Ch 10 are no hope of ever getting the footy and Ch Eddie would be just as bad.
There were two, the one he juggled with one hand because there were three hanging on to his other arm was the other one.How on earth did Dixon's one-hander not even get into contention for MOTY?

How do we fix this?
Noticed Gill said Brisbane Lions Football Club. A little pedantic but aren’t they officially the Brisbane Lions Australian Football Club, or simply just the Brisbane Lions?
Free piss is a pretty good reason to attend.Mark/Goal shouldn't be a thing on Brownlow night.
fu** the whole Brownlow night off and have an award for Forwards/Mids/Defenders + MVP (just becuase you win midfield doesn't mean you get MVP) - or revamp the voting completely. Why even attend the night as a defender or forward for anything but free piss.
Inb4 Dusty wins both Midfield and Forward because 'he floats forward bro'
It is truly a dated award with a shoddy voting structure fit a backwards competition, which I guess makes it perfect for the AFL in it's current state.

They once gave Matthew Lloyd GOTY for dropping the ball onto his back heel from half a metre out, in the same season Daniel Motlop booted the most audacious on the run wrong side banana from 50 out on the boundary.
Im not sure why anyone acts surprised anymore when these calls are made.
