Opinion Dustin Martin is better than Dangerfield

danger is like that student that does well in meaningless tests and some sacs during the year whilst shitting the bed on his VCE exam which gives him an atar of like 90, still good but his exam cost him

dusty is like that student who cruises through the tests getting 80%, dominating the sacs and absolutely blitzing the exams to get 99 for his atar.

performs best when the highest pressure is on and examiners are eying him for everything he does.

ironically dusty probably would fail vce and danger would ace it lel but you know what i mean

Dangerfield has absolutely no lateral movement. Dustin has great lateral movement.
Exactly. Danger is great at the breakaway forward movement, but he is slowing down so is less effective than before. Martin is surprisingly quick, but so sharp in his movements that you can't hem him which often brings others into the game. That is where I think he has Fyfe covered as well. Fyfe has a better all round game but is not as explosive and hard to stop as Martin when he really steps on the gas, which is usually at the pointy end of the season these days.

London to a brick.. we shallow people...

Most people I have spoken to after the GF have said that Dusty is now the best finals performer of at least the AFL era.

Of all time? Has to be close.
I had KB as my best finals player until Saturday, 3 times best in finals and 3 Normies says it all, best thing is this years was the most convincing of them all, just brilliant.

This shouldn't even be up for debate any longer, even before this finals series I would have taken Dusty over Danger in a heartbeat.

Dusty doesn't butcher the ball like Danger and Dusty steps up in big games and big moments.

That's pretty much my thoughts as well.

I'm not disputing Dusty being better than Danger in finals, but Dusty is 10-2 and Danger 5-8 in that time so would always win the votes. There are probably several Richmond players that get more votes per game in the finals than any Geelong player including Danger

That's another discussion - KB was an absolute gun finals player, maybe without the absolute brilliance of Dusty, but he was always in Richmond's best. He only had a chance at 2 Norm Smiths (won one and kicked 3 goals in the other, but we lost, so he wasn't going to get it).

And while Dusty is obviously great, he hasn't had a series like KB's in 1980 (2019 was his best and Dusty was close, but.........).

I'm happy to have both in our history, and it's a good discussion requiring lots of beers.

There is something in that, winners will more often than not get more votes. Richmond have 264 votes from those 12 games (so 185 non-Dusty votes, 15.41 per game), Geelong have 161 votes from their 13 games (so 133 non-Danger votes, 10.23 per game).

I’d argue that if ‘finals Dangerfield’ had have performed like ‘H&A season Dangerfield’ they would probably have a better record.

I don't doubt that but I still think Danger is unfairly maligned because of a bad GF and and bad half vs Richmond last year. It feels like he needs to carry our team because we don't have the talent. He has generally been in our best in most finals he has played for us. As I said previously, I'm under no illusion that he's better than Dusty or anything, because he isn't - but he isn't a serial finals flop like people seem to think.
