Maybe they need to move money out for witherden but i still wouldnt trade a promising KPP.
The other issue is brander was a giants academy player and if they get wind he is available i can see they will want him so if youre geelong you need to trade brander in (if you are going to) at 3.01pm before gws know anything about it.

Key defender for sure..hendo probably only has one more year left..blitz plays lots of roles and kolo is FA next year. Long term defender planning.
Wells obviously must rate him to keep chasing him.

I generally don't pay any attention to this sort of thing - in layman's terms, what is the net effect of the change in list sizes? I.e. how many fewer players will be on our list?

44 to 37.

Incorrect. It says max 44, min 37. It's basically all tied up in cutting main list sizes. Meaning, you can only have 37 players on your main list, but the other 7 spots can be taken up by rooks and Cat B.

Essentially there are 46 list spots now, for us that's comprised of 3 rooks and 2 Cat B rooks (41 main list spots).

The AFL will cut list sizes to a maximum of 44 and a minimum of 37 next year, according to The Age.

This is a cut of two to the primary list and one to the total rookie numbers.

After a lengthy debate that nearly delayed the trade period, the report suggests a decision has finally been made on list sizes.

The report goes on to say that the salary cap for 2021 is almost finalised and expected to be a cut of approximately 10 per cent.

The plan for 2021 sees the maximum number of listed players contingent on how many rookies a side has, with the total not being allowed to exceed 44, including Category A and Category B rookies.

There's an extra bit of info in another article that states as much:

Detailed in The Age report are specifics surrounding how a list could be compromised - if clubs have seven rookies (four Category A and three Category B) then they can only have 37 players on their primary list.

Basically saying you can have no less than 37 players on your list, and no more than 44 players on your list - for 2021
