Coronavirus and Football

And it seems to be working, I'm still waiting for that explosion in footballing cases that you were worried was coming back in May/June..
Never met someone as obsessed as you are with saying I told you.

I was worried about any cases back in March. No apologies for that.

I just dont understand why its against the law for me to meet up with 22 people in an outdoor setting (presumably because there is a risk attached), yet a footballer can spend 90 minutes in the pitch with a confirmed covid positive person and it's a ok.

Well you've never met me, you shirked every invitation I extended when I was over there.

You just seem quite obsessed with acting as if you know better than health authorities who have put these measures in place which are seemingly working. The PL is operating seamlessly, it's these ridiculous internationals that are causing the problems.

If you wanted to meet up with me you would have sent me a dm and asked.

I dont think I know more than health officials but if I see an inconsistency, or something that doesnt match what I know or have experienced, or something that worries me then I dont see a problem with saying so on here.

No different to you criticising the decision not to have supporters at grounds.

dont have a problem with top level sport going, it's all run at a very high level, it's the varying levels of international team practices and budgets. plus each country potentially has people in change who have varying levels of belief in the virus.

international football is an unnecessary risk. sure they might not be in close contact and all that stuff but there is a potential difference for someone leaving one of the prem clubs and going to play for a much smaller and not able to fund/want to fund the same testing levels. playing friendlies is just ridiculous, to think we hated friendlies before all this anyways.

Then you could be arguing that the rules the rest of the country are following are too harsh.

The current rules seem to be that if you play football, don't worry about the rules that the rest of the country follows.

Outside of football, someone who has come in close proximity with a positive case would be classed as a 'contact' and told to isolate.

Well no because the rest of the country isn't an elite football code with hygiene practices, restrictions, and limited physical interaction.

absolutely correct. teams go away for international duty, there's no strict bubble, players socialise with family/friends. keep everyone in a strict bubble and there's no issues.

If the whole country had the same protections in place for covid as footballers do at the elite level there would be no covid problem.

In any case, this is not a true statement. Footballers are spending the required 10 days in isolation after a positive test and only returning after a negative test. Strict guidelines are being followed with regards to close contacts (multiple buses for transport, accommodation spaced out etc). Any sport can run as long as they follow the elite sports guidelines also, it isn't just football that can run. They follow the same rules that everyone else does.

This applies inside of football aswell. Anyone who has spent 15 minutes or more face to face with a close confirmed contact or 2 hours in the same room self isolates. Footballers are not exempt from this.

You will find that the players are being kept apart inside apart from a few minutes to get changed. And there's noway that any player spends 15 minutes face to face with another player during a game.

If SM wanted to have a beer with me he would have sent a DM and asked. You cant turn down an invitation that was never made.

You've said this twice now but I know you don't like me proving you wrong so I've refrained from responding to this. I sent you a PM wishing you a happy new year and extending a peace offering to catch up. You left the PM without responding.

Fair enough. I'll stand corrected if thats the case.

Haven't you just spent the last few days suggesting that if I'd PMed you you would have accepted and it's my fault for not PMing you? :tearsofjoy:
