Why Swans are calling for an overhaul of draft bidding system
List manager Kinnear Beatson is proposing a change to the current system to prevent clubs bidding on players purely to force a rival to select them
www.afl.com.au
Poor Kinnear Beatson, struggling to cope with rival clubs making bids on elite Academy talent being funnelled onto the $ydney $wans' list. Don't these people know the unspoken rule you NEVER disadvantage the AFL Lovechild without serious rammifications from head office!?
Kinnear is proposing that any club in the AFL* who has their Academy player bidded on by another team either matches the bid, or automatically gets the next pick in the draft for free. So if the $wans hadn't taken Isaac Heeney

Considering how much time the $wans spend every trade period trading out draft picks for points to game the matching system this would really lower Kinnear's workload, as I suppose the existence of Academies themselves mean he doesn't have to spend as much time scouting players his franchise doesn't have exclusive rights to. Oh but it has nothing at all to do with giving the $wans an unfair advantage over their rivals, its all about growing the game™
*actually just the four northern franchises who have real Academies, everyone else can GAGF
