If we plan on using Hinge as a utility type rather than pigeonhole him as a HB then I'm all for it.

He's probably backup for Milera, McPherson and Hamill, all of whom have injury concerns.

Doubt he replaces Mackay.

1.5 hour meeting between Nicksy and RT - I really think he is a good chance of going number 1, he has some very special traits you don't see in a guy that big.

"Sounds like"? Who's saying that? I mean, I agree it would be a dumb thing to do (based purely on list numbers / draft picks, regardless of Hinge's quality or lack of), and yes to the cynics it would be "so AFC", but is there any reason to think that would happen?

Edit: OK now I've seen the tweet, it does seem to have some credibility, maybe not so dumb if we manage the lists well.

With the new rules this year the smart thing to do would probably be to shift Sloane to the Rookie List instead of guys like Mackay or Davis who we will likely cut next year. Opening up those Senior List spots next year instead of Rookie spots will give us way more versatility. Plus then we can pay part of Sloane's salary out of the cap for several years. Funny imagining how annoyed AFL House would be if we did that with our captain though.

They did... until the AFL changed the rule yesterday.

Can't blame you for not keeping up with this one, which is clearly a case of the AFL changing rules on the run, with almost no publicity.

Anyone think there's anything behind Kinnear Beatson's comments about academy kids?

He seemed quite frustrated by teams "bidding on academy kids early" to force clubs to pay up for them. He then said they would "have the decency to tell a club they were going to bid on their academy kid".

Starting to wonder if we've been putting a lot of time into Braden Campell and offering Sydney a similar GWS deal for them to get ahead of the bid (eg. 1 for 3 and Future first).

He then went on to comment about putting time into Thilthorpe's injury potentially to warn that he'll just pass and take Thilthorpe.

Just seemed strange he was so passionate about it considering how well they've done out of academy kids.

Listening to that I think he was waffling on about lots of stuff, just a thought bubble.

Clubs don't do vexatious bids, us or North aren't bidding on Campbell, he's rated in the 6-10 bracket. Swans wouldn't match at 1 or 2, don't have anywhere near enough points. They would probably gladly take McDonald and get Campbell back in a couple of years when he's homesick because he hates Adelaide.

JUH however we must bid on.

It was a question by our very own drafts stats guru Binuk (who seems to love trolling Cal Twomey) who asked 'any chance of someone from this Top 5 slipping to Pick 9'

And then Cal had a good laugh but proceeded to answer the question anyway......

3 - Riley Thilthorpe
4 - Denver Grainger-Barras
5 - Will Phillips

7- Zach Reid
8- Archie Perkins
9- Heath Chapman / Oliver Henry

Ok so we have now 33 on senior with the additions of Hinge and Hately. 3 Rookies. So assuming we go 6 Rookies and 38 leaving us with 5 picks in Draft and 1 rookie spot and two cat b Rookie Spots. Hopefully Borlase and Newchurch fill the CAT B rookie spots. All though I don't think Port would let Borlase slip. Mackay no doubt will be the other Rookie spot since they now can go straight onto the list. So no Rookie draft needed.

I haven't followed what Norf are doing, but back at the start they delisted 11 players? Interesting to see where they get even the minimum replacements from.
