It's a long way away, but we really need to look at drafting a young ruckman in 07 and developing him properly. That saying it is early on and we need to let Richards and Bryan compete. I would have Bryan infront of Richards right now as he adds more grunt. Fanning looked like he was going to take a very long time to develop.

I am a little concerned that we have no real ruck option being groomed.

I can't get the strategy. We delist Richards at years end and we've got...ummm. We'll basically have to flick our first round pick to get a half decent ruck. Unless we know Reid has 4 cms growth left in him, we have nothing!

I think Bryan will improve a bit. He's just come back (read: rushed back) from a knee op and as Didak was saying, your lateral movement is the last thing to come back. His kicking is usually his strength, but has been poor and that will take time. I'm not saying he'll be a world beater, but he should be a superior foil to Richards, Flaps or Cameron Cloke.

Cam looked fantastic on Saturday, but is the biggest spak ever to pull on boots when it comes to kicking. His ruckwork was terrible, so unless we're keen on a poor kicking CHF, then he is not even worth considering for the ruck.
 
We need to trade for one. We should have done so years ago. Why we didn't go for Simmonds or Jolley is beyond me.
 
Fanning showed nothing. Nothing! Between he and Richards they could make half a VFL ruckman. Absolute joke how the position has been handled by Malthouse. Worse than Thomas at St. Kilda.

A little concerned? FMD it is a disgrace and has been for years. Look at the ability to actually ruck of the options we have tried. Look at the two grand finals we have been rucked out of. One a narrow loss with time on goals from the middle a killer. The other a whitewash set up from the opening moments in the ruck. Yet nothing of substance done about it and no accountability for that fact. You might be a little concerned – I’m ropeable.
 
Fanning was average and never took the next step. I used to watch Williamstown nearly every second week, and he didn't improve throughout the season. He was never going to make the big league, despite being the tallest player on the list.

It's concerning. I know I will get criticized for saying Malthouse should have kept McKee for longer than he did. He wasn't a star by any means but he gave it a go. Richards doesn't have anything to fall back on, his second and third efforts are deplorable and that's the most important aspect of rucking. The jury is out for Bryan - It's promising.

You want to tank games, in order to spend a high draft pick on a project ruckman that would at best take another couple of years to develop? While we keep getting smashed in the hitout department?

I rekon the should give Bryan another shot vs St Kilda, and just see how he goes again, give him time as it has been said he has been rushed back to early.

This is evidence of the dire nature of the situation under MM. McKee was a bloke we shouldn’t have recruited let alone for pick 3 even with 7 thrown in much less kept for as long as we did. That we have been so poor overall in the ruck that people might consider we should have kept a bloke that clearly wasn’t good enough pretty much says it all. There are some dud ruckmen running around and no one else took McKee in preference to anyone else. We had our shot with McKee and we fell short. Should have moved on from the 2002 GF immediately and addressed the shortfalls but we haven’t even done it by 2007.

Really there isn’t any option. Bryan and Richards have to ruck. I think Fraser is unfit. There is no one else.

Yeah, Your right, They are our only option and we really need them to step up this year, because if Fraser gets injured, we have no ruckman
 
Collingwood need to bite the bullet and trade for a ruckmen years end. Preferably a young one unless they can get an old one cheaply in the preseason draft.

I would take a shot at trading for someone young like Barry Brooks, Jason Laycock, John Meeson or Cameron Wood. These guys probably won't get as much game time as they deserve and have plenty of people in front of them in 07.

These guys will be around for the better part of a decade so will still be part of any success Collingwood have after rebuilding. It will cost an arm and a leg but I think it is necessary for Collingwoods future.
 
Who knows? I don't even know how old they are, let alone whether they're potentially AFL standard.
