Rumour 2020 Draft Rumour Mill

Geelong is the last club any young kid will want to play for in 3 years. Once Dads army has retired, they'll be bottom 4. Bookmark it.
I heard that 10 years ago ... 9 years ago .... 8 years ago ... 7 years ago ...

You get the drift.

Cherny saying Richmond has 17 on the table preference of future picks

West coast and Geelong most interested in acquiring
Worth it for Richmond. Next year's draft will likely be better at the end of the first round, and there's a chance West Coast could have a bad year. Geelong too, but less likely.

Can't see clubs offering future firsts though. Maybe Geelong offer 27 and one of their future 2nds for 17 and maybe a future 3rd

Yeah but we're giving up Thilthorpe who has the potential to be the best in the draft.

First of all, I think it's a 5% chance he slips through to our pick. If he does, then we pick him up. Fairly straight forward. I don't believe 9 and 22 will catch our attention because we're likely not looking to draft 6 players.

Yes, it's more likely he will get picked up by Bombers than be given away.

That said, even if Thilthorpe turns out to be the best in draft - he won't be straightaway worth a pick 9 this year and a top 3 pick next year. Adelaide is getting robbed in that trade.

Yeah Adelaide would be crazy to do that. I just can't see us value 9 and 22 higher than the opportunity to draft Thilthorpe, especially because having him slip to our pick means either Perkins or Cox was taken in the top 6. I could see it happen if we didn't have 7 and 8. With 3 top 10 picks, a second rounder becomes excess to our needs.

In which case it would be knocked back pretty quickly 😂
Not sure about that.

Lets say if the Liam Kolar / Matt Allison rumours are correct and we see them as our best option for our 1st round pick and most likely they are still available at #27.

Cats hold Essendons 2021 2nd rounder so that and #27 might get it done

More chance of doing a deal with WCE or Adelaide 😉

I will be hoping for the crows 22+23
More likely 1st and 2nd this year and a third next year for their 2 early seconds.
Tigers could then use both and then match a Rioli bid or use one and move on the second to someone else.
OR give this 1st and a future second/third to WCE for their future 1st depending on how the clubs see the standings being next year.
Either way any team holding multiple firsts next year is one to be envious of.

Im not sure id do that since next year will be such a good draft but i can see why the swans might.

Have to give up something and it gives GC something. That said I’m not expecting more than pick 3, Campbell and Gulden that’s it for us

I think it depends on what is available at 17-if theres a player geelong really like 27 and one of our future 2nds for say 17 and a future 3rd/4th might work...if richmond want a key forward they may still get a decent one at 27.

True on both counts.

I'd guess that we will offer up a choice of our future second or ports future second and see what it can get us.

Based on Gold Coast trading 27 for a future third I’m guessing it would get around pick 20 which will become around mid 20s.

I think if Geelong offered Essendons future second for pick 17 (likely to be around 23) I think the tiges should do that.

Edit: what is a rough translation in value between the two drafts? All reports so far are that 2021 picks are in big demand. A rough guess:

2020 pick 20 (live) = 2021 pick 30
2020 pick 30 (live) = 2021 pick 40-45
2020 pick 40 (live) = 2021 pick 55

Teams overpay for live picks as they get attached to specific players so it might narrow a little on the night.

Friendly reminder that you don’t need to shoehorn every strand of draft related conversation into one thread.

We have a general discussion preview thread that’s designed for a lot of the general chatter, if you can’t find an appropriate club focus, academy, media phantom thread, etc:

You are assuming EFC is interested in Tillthorpe. He doesn't have enough tricks to be a quality number key forward.
