Knightmare saying we will Pass on a Reef Bid by Adelaide

and Has us Getting Perkins and Stone with our 2 Late 1st Rounders

Just his view Dave. Phantoms are never clear cut.

Some of these phantoms going around are oddly thought out. Like the one in the Herald Sun today for example...

They've got Essendon taking two players and then bidding on Jones from Port. If they wanted Jones, and wanted Port to not match, they would bid with their first pick.

Secondly, the Bombers traded with Port for Fantasia and as far as I can see, Essendon didn't get ripped off, so I'd be surprised if they bid.

I think Adelaide will be the side to bid on Jones, but that's not to say they won't then bid on McInnes straight afterwards.

I can definitely see Gold Coast being the side to bid on Campbell.

That's just one phantom example, there have been a few.

Hopefully they Bid on Jone before Reef

exactly. I feel like its your duty to bid, even if he won't go to you. If he is the best prospect. You bid. Hopefully a few more bids in the top 10 before any Reef Bid to push it down lol

Not necessarily.

I'm not sure about which teams have future NGAs but if Adelaide have one in 2021 for example, they may not bid in case the Dogs return the favour next year.

It's a bit like the Pies tonight... I'd be shocked if we got to our picks and bid on the likes of Gulden, Walker, Downie etc. because it might lessen our chances of a bid on Daicos next year.

Pie 4 Life any future Adelaide NGA/FS prospects they'd be wary off in this respect? Or even North etc. with picks 2 onwards?

True but just about every single Mock Draft has is taking Stone.

You have to get your Head around there still is a Small Chance we pass on Reef IF that Bid Comes from the Crows

Lets wait and see. Hope for the best.

Its an interesting precedent indeed. It definitely compromises the integrity of the draft. If it starts happening regularly it does open the door to clubs getting in the ear of draftees and putting them up to it.

But I honestly reckon its best for everyone if the kids are honest about it. That way clubs drafting prospects from interstate can make an informed decision about whether they want to accept the risk and back in their support networks. It also ensures that if those players are drafted interstate they getany tailored support they need straight away rather than just the standard interstate induction.

Agree with all you points, I see the biggest risk in it being manipulated which will definitely happen.

In a future where these types of comments from draftees carry a little more weight, how would we feel if a couple of great prospects from Perth made the same comments in a year where Freo or WC had no early picks?

As another poster mentioned, should players be nominating for a draft if the cannot handle the (interstate) consequences?

Pies could still trade up, but if they think they can get someone better than Reef with that first pick, then I think that's the route they'll go if picks stay where they are.

What clubs and those completing the phantom drafts are seeing. And I'm not a Herald Sun subscriber to see what they've put together, but with eg. Essendon bidding on whether it's a Campbell or Jones with their third pick. The clubs realise Sydney and Port Adelaide are matching those bids regardless of where they come, having more than enough points. And Sydney after matching a bid on Campbell, still having enough points to match on Gulden. With a Sydney for example, after they've taken their first pick, matched on Campbell and Gulden, they're not taking any more players. So Sydney in particular don't have a worry in the world where that bid comes.

I think Adelaide pass on Jones. They feel okay with their defence but want midfielders and taller midfielders somewhere is the talk, and ideally someone athletic as they lack both which indicates pretty strongly they'll either bid on a McInnes or take a Poulter. Though Poulter is someone the Pies might consider with the second of those picks.

Since gws has bettered our offer to Adelaide for pick 9. Looks like our best option is to go for ease dons pick 8 for our 14-16. Are they allowed to trade future picks to give to us with 8?

You're using the word "best" very loosely there.

Eseendon have already traded out their future 2nd and 4th round picks, so you can forget about getting any later round picks from them now as they have basically nothing else of value to trade (pick 44 is not a useful piece even with all of the bid matches).

We shouldn't be trying to get pick 8 as the asking price is too high without something else coming back in return - normally deals like this end up being 2 x 1st round picks for 1 x first and 1 x 2nd round pick.

Pies could still trade up, but if they think they can get someone better than Reef with that first pick, then I think that's the route they'll go if picks stay where they are.

Bit of a Gamble as be another 3-4 Picks until us so would we take a Risk like that.

The Big Question about this is where Hine and Co Rate Reef in the Draft

I don't think that's oddly thought out. I'd agree with your rationale if there was no live pick trading, but with live trading a distinct possiblity, if you're Essendon, you take the two highest rated kids first, becasue that pick 8 might get an offer too good to refuse.

Personally, I hope what Perkins said today has no effect on interstate clubs and their picks. I understand that it will, but it sets a dangerous precedent that players will start saying that, next year it’ll be a WA kid who will slide. Imagine if MacDonald can say that and ends up at West Coast for pick 14. Obviously it benefits Victorian clubs given the majority of players come from our state, but it’s a national competition, they clearly know that, if you’re not prepared for a move interstate maybe VFL is the best option for you.

On the flip side as someone who generally stays away from the draft, what sort of player is he, if it works in our favour does he at least address needs or would it be a case of a best available player who fits into one of our many undersized midfielders?

Powell is going much earlier than 21.

Essendon, Adelaide and North Melbourne will all consider him. He's not dropping past North Melbourne. Luff from all reports loves him.

Otherwise about as good as any attempt at a phantom.

More like we have a handshake agreement with Norf to trade our future first for pick 30 and 39 after the bid for Reef comes in, giving us "4-5 picks inside the top 40".
Four picks inside the top 40 is very achievable. We would only need to have a Reef bid after our two first rounders, we match with our four late picks and then trade our 2021 first for a 2020 second and 2021 second, take a player, that’s four.

Can’t get my head around it. Surely our future comes into play to avoid it. Why lose out on another talent. Over next 2 years we should have at least 4 top 20 players. Not 3. One less is a big difference even though it may not seem so.

Geez, we are terrible poker players!

What’s with telegraphing all our moves and thereby looking desperate and undermining their value? Hine has just told all Clubs what we want/need to do and they’ll now know that they can offer unders on a “take it or leave it” basis and as the clock runs down we’ll probably flinch and accept.

Why not just publicly shut the hell up and then be judged when the dust settles???

Instead, Hine has now told all Pies supporters and rival Clubs that the pass mark is getting 4-5 picks in this year’s top 40. So they’ll probably have to sell the farm in terms of 2021 (and 2022?) picks to hit that target, because after the Treloar and Stevo trades debacle can’t afford to look foolish again.

It really is amateur hour down at the Holden Centre!

Hahaha. I hope you weren't one of the tantrum throwers on here during trade period, demanding the club tell us what was going on. Isn't this the type of thing the hordes wanted?

Assuming Cox or Reid don't make it through, but we survive an early bid for Reef, I hope it plays out like this

Macrae/Bruhn
Perkins/Stone
Trade with Richmond, Stone/Poulter
Reef match

Two of Callow, Ford, one of the ruck/forwards (Neale, Walsh) late

Should I just not watch the draft and save on disappointment?!
