No surprise about this event. GW will be competent in his Collingwood role but not stunning.

The HFC smells at the moment. It lacks energy, it lacks planning, it lacks enthusiasm, it lacks strategy. It is led by a 74 year old in his fourth term. It is dominated by a legendary senior coach who has two years left on a contract without an obvious plan for its future. We appear to be meandering. Reactive.

Where is the usual smart, aggressive, enthused HFC plan for the future ??

The place is a mess. Some will say this is an over reaction, someone like GW does not leave if there was clarity, leadership, agreement on a future plan. Surely.

Saints are on the way up. Lethlean was put at St Kilda at the behest of his great mate, Gillon. I don't see him jumping ship.

Alot of speculation on here it could very well be the perfect time to move and get a pay rise. Or maybe a difference of opinion with Clarko who knows.
But It makes this season even more interesting now.

Wonder if there’s any way we could get Stephen Conole out of the Lions for recruitment/list management. Lions have rebuilt well the past 3-4 years and seem to always get what they want at the trade table without giving away too much.

14yrs is a good chunk of your working life.

Time to move on to the next chapter for both himself and our club.
We’ve got a new group of coaches, a fresh looking playing group and a bunch of players looking to either recapture their form or grasp their chance.

I really wish Wright well.

We held him to his contact last time, he's been at the club for 14 years and I'm not comfortable with keeping someone who wants to leave a second time.

When it's time to go, you go.

Collingwood had a mess with their list management but maybe they had more cash for GW and a challenge for him to help sort his old club out.

It's not during the season or close to a draft it's about the best time for the club if it's going to happen so let's hope they find a good replacement quickly

Wright is leaving the football manager position at hawthorn to be director of football at Collingwood

Collingwood may have list management issues but he’s not taking a demotion to that position. He will of course be ‘directing’ that function

Farewell Wrighty, thanks for your great work at the HFC..
Feels like another one moving on, indicating the end of an era...

As others have eluded to.. we’re coming to a real crossroads at the HFC.. time for a new start and some fresh ideas.. hopefully we can start finding the right people to take us into the next successful era...

This was my first thought.. getting someone from their list management team given how they've been able to turn things around.

Well said mate. It truly sums up my feelings. It has a Brisbane Lions post dynasty feel about it. It really does.

As bad as this is, I'm loving all the posts recognising how big of a loss this is to our club.

In an often unheralded role (where its far easier to make enemies/get hate than it is to win fans), this guy has been huge for us.

Goes without saying we wish him all the best, but boy are there some big shoes to fill now.

Fallout from Patton? Would Wright have been involved at all with hunting him?
This is silly. Wright has been huge for our club and theres no way we would usher him out like this for reasons like that.

Even if he was the spearhead behind getting Patton, he has far too many credits in the bank for this type of reaction.

He's left for a new start/greener pastures which is perfectly normal after such a lengthy tenure.
