The club is rebuilding their list while failing to publicly acknowledge it or inform their fans. Will lead to a lot of dissatisfaction as some fans seem to think last season was an anomaly when in reality it was the start of a downhill trend.
It normally takes more than some shiny new recruits to distract the membership base from poor results, for some reason the Windy Hill mob seem to think the lack of quality senior players at both ends will not have the same effect on them as it does every other club in history. It is not quite Crows level bad, might be closer than comfortable for some.
Will be an interesting ride to watch.
It gives me great pleasure that we took the kid in Will Philips that Essendon so desperately need for their rebuild l.

“This draft was about the future of our club and doing the right thing about our club, in the next two or three years we’ll be turning over the majority of that spine and there will be a brand new spine."

We need another ~ 180cm midfielder?
News to me.
You need a driven classy inside mid that screams future captain who will come through with the talls you've drafted.
I suspect the plan is to get one this draft but not sure it will work out that way.
We really don't need another 180cm midfielder, he was the one player most of us was hoping was off the board because whilst he was clearly too good not to take, he also didn't improve our midfield mix.
Size is immaterial when the rest of the package is that classy.
See Harvey, B.
It was years ago, like your last finals winyou obviously don't have to do much to get Carltons POTY award....

Oh we do, especially with Tigers fans.you should be thanking us. We are the reason you are not in the same boat.
No, that was Dodo making excuses and pretending to make the best of a bad situation when everyone wanted out.Adrian Dodoro lifts the lid on Essendon's draft strategy

Not sure how much more public a comment you need.

None of them replace Saad-to-see-him-go, Fanta-see-ya-later-alligator, Joe-anywhere-but-here and your entire Irish experiment as they are 2-4 year project players. You needed to stock up on talls 2-3 years ago as they always take longer to develop into match winners. Now that you have taken talls, still haven’t filled the gaps left by experienced players. Caldwell is a good start, will take time to find his feet.

Sigh.Wait.
So going to the draft to replenish young talls. To replace the aging talls. Is now the wrong thing. Because we should have gone to the draft. To replace Fantasia and Saad?
fu** me you Carlton supporters are morons.
you needed to draft talls 2-3 years ago to replace them as they would be ready now.
The rebuild has started in earnest
kids who are up to 4 years away
Fans are being told to expect good things
could be another 10 years before you see finals action again
Our recruiting was a disaster for years, the difference is most Carlton fans could see it.everyone?
you mean 3 people? of which only 1 was a surprise to anybody?
let take a cartons supporters advice. Pay McGovern a million a year, whilst not even playing him and just tank through top draft picks for years on years and still accomplish fu** all.
no doubt we are trash, but a Carlton supporter giving advice to other teams lists? was a good laugh.
No it doesn’t.Do you even realise that what you're writing contradicts itself?

No it doesn’t.
You needed to draft talls 2-3 years ago, the ones you got this draft will take up to 4 years to be regular contributors to take over from Hooker and Hurley in particular.
The rebuild has started because experienced players left and you had no choice but to hit the draft, it is just too little and too late to stop the bottoming out that has been threatening for a few years. Shiel, Smith, Wright, Caldwell, Stringer and Phillips will be lucky to see any success before their time is up. Caldwell the most likely and only because of his age.
Dodo and the club are pointing to the talls drafted while conveniently ignoring who left.
Yet the bloke who has been in charge of recruiting is still there after 20 years.maybe go have a read of the Essendon board.
We are well aware our general drafting has been rubbish over the years. But the specifics you are pointing out in this thread are missing the mark.
