It appears the most pressing concern for Cricket Australia was not that we lost the first test at the GABBA since 1988.

It is not that we lost to an Indian C team
It is not that we have massive problems with the quality of cricket in the Big Bash
It is not that we have a T20 captain who can't buy a run at the moment
It is not that we have no idea who our next captain is after Paine

It appears their No.1 priority is to ensure they are taking the right "moral stance" on Australia Day.

Who are these guys running the game these days? Why the * does CA even have a stance on Australia Day?

How about focusing on the game, our struggling test team, our development of junior players, the length of the Big Bash?

Disgraceful.

CA would employ both full time PR and media staff, as well as hiring PR consultancy firms to work this sort of stuff out. I'm neither here nor there on the issue itself as I can see both sides but the people who are actually spending time on this stuff and concentrating on it and investing time in it, would have little if anything at all to do with the cricket itself.

you say that, but the "big boost" and the supersub or whatever it is. They are all generated by the marketing team.

This bullshit is distracting

So who came with the "Bash boost" and the "power surge" praytell
Pretty widely publicised that Trent Woodhill came up with the ideas (or, more accurately, the idea to recycle old ideas and pass them off as new ideas). The marketing department's contribution would've been limited to coming up with the names for them.

OK, I'll bite.

1. Losing one test match is not that big a deal. Get over it.
2. They were missing some players - so what?
3. Quality of cricket in BBL is a "massive problem" - says who?
4. Our T20I captain has averaged 30+ in every year he has played T20Is.
5. CA may know precisely who the next captain is.
6. How do you know their "number one priority" is anything to do with Australia Day? Presumably this has been going on in the background, and presumably they can do more than one thing at a time.
6. Referring to Australia Day as January 26 does not make the test team worse and it doesn't harm the development of junior players.

1. Sorry thats why the team exists
2. So it means our team played like s**t
3. I've watched every game of the BBL this year. Its a significantly worse competition than the IPL.
4. Obviously haven't watched him play in the IPL or BBL.
5. They don't
6. They can but they have more pressing concerns than taking a moral stance
7. It doesn't make it any better. Thats the point.

Can you imagine if the AFL did things like this... oh thats right they do.
Facebook and Twitter will be full of change the date stuff all day January 26th, wake up January 27th and it's all over and on to the next subject to rant about.
Melbourne cup day the Horse racing protests are in full swing, the moral objectors are all over facebook and twitter. Next day they are on to something else even though racing is on again the next day.
Their protests whether you agree with them or not don't work, Sporting leagues taking sides on issues has no impact either, they do it to feel good about themselves, they take the sides of least resistance and think their supporters believe they are caring special organizations.
Just on my social media accounts alone I know who will post something and it will be like clockwork, same rant every year on the same day on numbers of issues.
Cricket Australia have jumped on board, they will jump on other things also in the future. No big deal and not worth worrying about. In this case on January 27th all forgotten.

I'd argue that the criticism of CA in this instance should be related to the area of the action it has taken.

I have no problem with what they are doing but it seems to be window dressing over a really big problem in the game.

Which is - our indigenous people are very good athletes (look at AFL, the Rugby codes, athletics for instance) - so where have they been/where are they in cricket?

And what is CA doing to get more indigenous Australians playing? Sure as hell little niceties like this Australia Day move isn't going to achieve much in that area.

Cricket Australia have made it pretty clear since the incident in South Africa that winning matches of cricket is no longer their top priority.

Trying to be seen as morally superior to all other sports with their lengthy bans of Smith and co, to the over the top kneeling before every BBL match and now not recognising Australia Day whilst still profiting off it. This is one conflicted and broken organisation and sadly the worst is yet to come.

What's that old saying again? Get Woke go Broke.

CA aren't seeing this as a "struggling" Test team, similar to the selectors they are thinking Starc and Lyon will come good......and have you not seen all sporting organisation stance on BLM, teams correctly had to change their name so I see no issue with this.

CA had to take that strong stance after what Warner and Burns did, especially when the PM chipped with what the captain represent to Australians, IMO this was why Smith coped the same punishment as well with "guilt" by association due to the public backlash where fuel was added even by the PM.

The system has been broken for a long time.

Nobody went to Sheffield Shield matches, unless you were a complete cricket nut. Maybe a thousand or two, but never a big enough number to pay for itself. Shield cricket, whilst important for developing test players, ran at a loss, and did so for decades. What subsidised the whole set-up was international matches, in particular the 50 overs ODIs.

But ODI's have had their heyday. No other country wants to come to Australia for several weeks at a time to play in a long and drawn out triangular series any more. It's all short and meaningless 3 or 4 match ODI series that just don't have the same appeal.

T20 cricket is where it is at. It can fund the whole of the rest of domestic cricket.

You can whine about the BBL undermining Shield cricket all you like, but something has to pay for Shield cricket since it can't fund itself. Without BBL Shield cricket will slowly fade away and die out, and test cricket with it.

You know you are travelling well when even Scomo can successfully snipe at you from the cheap seats.

The hypocrite who was prepared to exploit the cricket team for politics one year ago when the country was on fire, who is now saying cricket and politics should stay separate?

CA have made it clear that the state of the sport in this country and the product are not a priority to them. Corporate virtue signaling and inflating participation numbers to sell to advertisers is their main goal. Sutherland leaving changed nothing.

Also considering some of the crowds over the last few years probably not a good idea to isolate further people from the sport.
