Continued in Part 2

Thanks for posting this link dlanod. I went looking for it when I saw D12’s comment. This is not some new trendy social media whim. Worth reading some of the speeches. So little has change in 80 odd years.

Came here for ignorant Dylan and Mac Mum comments, was not diserpointed.
Bless your little hearts, if changing a date will make all you little sensitive sous sleep better at night, knock yourselves out and change it, but get off your high horse. I guess we'll look forward to the next pathetic bandwagon the masses will hitch their wagon to after being told they should be angry about something they didn't give a stuff about months before.

Yep, so ignorant.:drunk:

My wife and I sometimes have very in-depth discussion about some of the socialist nature of Australian society.

Coming from a communist country, she often views some of our socialist institutions as some of our societies biggest problems.
IMO no such thing as pure capitalism and probably never will be, our world is a socialist world to varying degrees in different areas.

Plenty of socialism for business goes on with the bank bailouts being the best recent example of this, also plenty of tax breaks and subsidies go to business along with government/private business partnerships, + state assets being privatized.

Sorry for the side track derail.

You've crossed over to be a real campaigner in this thread.

If you can't sit back and see how Australia Day isn't at the very least insensitive to a lot of people then that's a real worry.

Unlike you in most threads.

The vast majority of indigenous people I know have never cared about this issue until they've been told to care about it which can be said for the vast majority of people protesting; they were nowhere to be seen until being told to give a damn or get on a social justice bandwagon until recently, so please forgive my cynicism for the disingenuous motivations a lot are now feigning this faux outrage.

And this is all from someone who really doesn't give a crap about "Australia Day," the BS awards peddled out or whether the date changes. Imagine the views of those that do give a damn.

Waste of time. It's clear to me now Dylan is either the world's most negative, entitled human being or a troll who feeds off being controversial. Leaning towards the latter.

Entitled how? Not wanting to follow the rest of you lot in your pathetic attempt at feigning outrage about something that doesn't change a thing and the fact that many indigenous people don't either, but yep, you'll be angry on their behalf despite not giving a s**t about this issue up until three days ago.

What's your next bandwagon you're getting ready to jump on; whatever the ABC or SBS or any other do gooder on FB tells you to get upset about?

Why do you have to care about motivations?

Not easy for people to speak up and complain when they've been treated so horribly by authorities and the majority of the population.

One thing I'm not is ignorant. I look at things in a simple open-minded fashion and make my mind up from there. I do not necessarily follow the popular thread of things if I see flaws in it.

The one thing that really stands out to me these days is how if someone has a different opinion or view of things, they are branded with some derogative name.

If you don't like someones opinion that's ok, but that person is allowed to voice their thoughts just as you are. Those views might be quite silly in the eyes of others but in days gone by we just walked away.......we didn't let things get heated to the point of physical fights and/or verbal abuse.

There are way too many hot heads today not prepared to accept a different opinion to theirs, so many get abusive instead....

You have already been shown that this is not true. You are just seeing more of it because it is being more heavily covered than previously.

hahaha - the 26th of Jan is literally the date that the systematic decimation of their culture began, it's actually farcical that it's that date and that its supposed to be inclusive.

And someone with a level of interlect such as yourself should be able to see that at a base level it's unfavourable fo all involved - and no, it won't fix the systemic issues and yes more issues will arise, but the failure to do so - is ignorance.

The 'rubbing their face in it' element to Australia Day is abhorrent.

Hardly anyone outwardly celebrates it any more anyway.

And... you are infact the sensitive little soul who is so upset about the notion of it being changed.

I think a perfect date would be the day we become a Republic, intertwined with first nations people being enshrined as the traditional owners of this country as the first statement in the constitution - tokenism? maybe - but change comes through the accumulation of small token acts.

It's very convenient for people like yourselves to try and halt change under the guise of 'it won't fix anything anyway'... its utter bullshit.

Through all the years of watching you get torched on here ive held some level of respect for you, I dunno, I think there is some interlect behind your whole shtick- but this just really exposes you as another bogan bigot - honestly diserpointing.

- you're all snow flakes
- I have indigenous friends

priceless

Yes, a cousin is part indigenous and I've got to know many of his family I'm not related to and his friends, not to mention playing footy in WA for many years and being teammates with many indigenous boys, but of course, I'm a bogan bigot.

Irrespective, at least I call out BS for what it us unlike you who wants to get hysterical and throw out insults as you've done, but hey, keep those insults coming, I love them.

They used to be there so the indigenous knew where not to go further than

Oh really? That's crazy! So the ones around Brisbane existed too keep indigenous people out of the city? I just assumed that they just outlined the edges of suburbs, I should have paid more attention in Australian history in high school

What about non-indigenous supporters

So whatever is BS in your opinion is BS for everybody else?

The 'I call it as I see it' motto is so incredibly stereotypical of a bogan bigot

I can't confirm this has happened, but it is possible that people you know don't always tell you what's inside their heart. If they hear you say things like changing the date won't fix it in a general, non confrontational conversation it's possible they don't bother exposing their genuine feelings.

I know I tailor what I say when I'm speaking to you because we don't have a conversation, it's just you being peeved at the world on the latest trending issues and me usually only bothering when I think I have a sound fact. Other than now of course.
