Time to close the 2020 thread and open this for the 2021 season.

I've moved recent injury news here from closed 2020 thread. (see above)

This is one thread I hope is sparsely visited this year.

This isn't Geelong specific but rather info regarding changes to the concussion rule across the league

Concussed AFL players will be sidelined for at least one match under a major overhaul of the game’s policing of head knocks.

In an admission more needs to be done to tackle the scourge of concussion, the league will significantly strengthen its return-to-play protocols for the 2021 season.

Under current guidelines, concussed players are able to play seven days after a knock if they pass medical assessments.

The lay off period will now be extended beyond 10 days.

It means a player knocked out in a preliminary final would miss the Grand Final.

An AFL spokesman said its updated concussion guidelines would be finalised in the coming weeks.

With Camerons soft tissue injury history this is really not good news.

He's played 171 games in 9 seasons....thats averaging 19 games per season...a pretty sparse injury history to put it mildly.

History of hamstring injuries in both legs and missed 2017 finals because of them, not saying he hasnt played lots of games but as anyone with hamstring trouble knows they can be an issue when you reinjure them, 2 weeks can turn into 4 and then into 6 pretty quickly. Fingers crossed its just a minor issue and more tightness than a strain.

JC hamstring, Paddy groin. *sigh*

I read that the Paddy groin was an issue throughout the last season, not just the GF (Not sure if previously discussed- apologies if so). Makes sense as he looked a little hobbled at times, even during some of his better games. Pretty good season if so notwithstanding.

Given the chronic nature of that injury, I trust that Scott and co are planning around that. With the Cameron injury also, I hope that JJ and some of 2019 draftees with potential forward X factor ( thinking Frances, Taheny) get some decent match practice minutes.

Problem is he wants to play every game and not rest. Does himself no favours doing that.

The numbers don't quite do it justice. He played every game the Giants contested last year in a COVID-affected season. And has played 41/43 (95%) of his team's games over the last two seasons.

To suggest he has a recent susceptibility to injury simply does not square with the facts.

Fingers crossed it's nothing to trouble him. Being such a tall and lanky person, they often begin to suffer these kind of soft tissue concerns.
He's an aerobic athlete of the highest order. Approaching 30 years of age, that back and legs will start to feel it more and more.
Technically a 27-y-o is "approaching 30"; but technically so is a 1-y-o.

I believe he suddenly aged a few years only after agreeing to & then signing with Geelong

Prior to making his intentions clear, I'm pretty sure he was a key forward in his mid-20s who had a good number of years of football left; but something crazy seems to happen once a player joins Geelong and suddenly they are aged 2/3 years...
