I guess ya do what ya gotta do when training in the QLD sun

He is an utter classic, that kid. Completely unaffected by the world around him. Totally absorbed by what he's about. And clearly very comfortable in his own skin. No pun intended.

Seems like a very impressive young man. And is clearly going to be an amazing footballer. Despite the colour of his guernsey, I will freely admit to being very interested in watching his career unfold. Incredible talent, extreme dedication, and gives every sign of being a fantastic teammate and role model.

So that pic of him today just becomes another opportunity to intone the same words that we'll be hearing a heck of a lot over the years to come...

M. Rowell, three votes.

As long as he doesn't get injured he will win 3 brownlow by the time he retires. But the flags question is harder because I can't see GC ever not being a basket case.
People were saying the same about Richmond in the AFL era. Or perhaps a better comparison is Fremantle, who didn't get the flag but did finally come out as a legit contender for a few years. Clubs can turn things around quickly, even the ones that we think might be perpetual basketcases. The time will come for GC sooner or later. Key for them will be retaining the quality young players like him long term.

I don't recall Freo or Richmond ever bleeding the talent that GC do. And the difference is Freo can easily retain their WA boys, and Richmond had the lure of massive crowds. GC have neither.

I think it's more about supporters getting used to certain clubs being poor for a period of time and either being unable or unwilling to accept they might get better at some point. Seemed to explain Hawthorn fans (mostly, but there were others) about us from 2007 onwards. We weren't so amusing once we started winning. Same thing has happened with Richmond in the last few years too.

It is gratifying to see Carlton and Essendon fans now grappling with the reality of decades in the wilderness though.

Carlton gonna be a powerhouse for a lot of years to come unfortunately. Kind of like Richmond were prior to 2016 when most made fun of them.
List is prime and ready to dismantle the usual suspects.

Their fanbase is worse than Richmond so it will be hell.
I don't think their list is in as good nick as everyone says for a few reasons.
Cripps isn't Martin. He has carried this team and is now constantly looking ragged by rd 8 or 9. Walsh is still only 20, Curnow is constantly injured, Zac Williams and Saad are talented but not world beaters.
And then their forwardline of McKay, McGovern and Casboult just won't even be good enough to carry a team to a flag.

Anyone else find this an interesting choice - I thought Tom Mitchell would have been named captain

Very surprised, actually. And you'd think it says as much about what the playing group thinks of the likes of Mitchell and O'Meara as it does about McEvoy himself.

Anyway, all the best to him. Considering where their list is at, it's not going to be a walk in the park.

Did Stratton captain for 2 years?

McEvoy turns 32 in July & he's also a RFA at the end of this year, not that I see other teams necessarily trying to entice him - seems like he's another short term option. If he does captain for another 2 maybe 3 years, then Mitchell & O'Meara would 30/31 which would mean another short term option if they were to genuinely look in that direction

Unless they are thinking someone like Worpel as the long term option, but with the current position of the club & Worpel being only 22 it's not something they want to burden him with but to then transition to him when he's 24/25

As you say, maybe they have a long-term strategy that fits neatly with a short-term appointment. Given Ben's age, it does almost seem like they're simply kicking the can down the road a little at this point, though.

He is their only decent player under 26, he is already burdened by having to be at Hawthorn wasting his career :$

Just watched the Collingwood/Eddie McGuire response to the racism report leaked to the HS today...

."This is a proud moment for the Collingwood Football Club".

"This was not an investigation." (?)

"The report looks at our systems and structures in place and how we can improve them."

Collingwood now representing itself as beacon of light for society as a whole, not just for the AFL community.

The black and white stripes of Collingwood a powerful symbol in the fight against racism.....apparently not....up to now at least.

Ed is going to remain in place and ensure the 18 recommendations made by the report are implemented over the next 12 months.

Classic media spin from start to finish. When it's obvious to all and sundry that you are spectacularly out of touch, run an alternative narrative that instead paints you as brave and bold pioneers, working for the benefit of all. So any negative fall-out attributed to you can be cast as supreme martyrdom, being prepared to suffer the 'slings and arrows' in the interests of everyone but yourself.

Should be called out for the empty posturing and obfuscation that it is. What will actually happen, of course, is that Eddie will again be waved through by all his mates in the media and we'll be told how he's leading us through troubled waters with a heart bigger than our famous thoroughbred. All the while conveniently neglecting the complicit role he played in creating this sad state of affairs in the first place.

Seriously, where would we be without Eddie and the CFC to lead us out of this societal malaise? It really doesn't bear thinking about...
