Lucky we just took 3 x players inside the top 10 then, to make it more likely to improve.
Yes but you just two of the best players at your club to get them... albeit one hasn’t played much recently.

you got younger but you also got worse with no guarantees of it being worth it in the long run.

Daniher was one of our best in 2017.

Hasn't been since then. 18 goals in 3 years means he's a long way removed from one of our actual best players.

Saad yes. But he was also a HBF, not exactly a pillar you build around for the future.

So we've lost 1 of our best players over the last 3 years. Brought in 3 x top 10 selections.

For a club in the bottom 6 we've done fairly well to reposition for the future.

Adelaide and North's lists have considerable higher upsides than Hawthorn who are now finally paying the price for years of topping up.

Hartigan, Phillips, Patton and Frost in the last two years would suggest otherwise.
A 24 year old and 26 years old very cheap and the other two cost pretty much nothing?

Rebuilding entirely through the draft is stupid. Adding pieces that have 5+ years for very little just makes sense

I didn’t say you did the wrong thing but 3 firsts over the past 2 years, at the cost of Saad and Daniher is hardly this huge springboard compared Hawthorn adding two firsts over the past 2 years.

Both teams need a lot to go right to get back to contending.

Not if they're list cloggers. Like all of those players are.

You haven't 'gone to the draft' either. You've just taken your regular picks.

Phillips and Frost are not list cloggers, they are solid players. Not stars, not players that carry teams but solid decent players that all lists need.

I agree with this idea. I hate people using the term "list cloggers" to describe role players. Every team needs role players, players who will never be in contention for the All Australian award, will not be getting the big contacts but turn up every week and do their job without much fanfare.

You can argue that the Western Bulldogs have a superb mid field this year, one that could challenge Richmond and halt the reign of Dusty? Are they as good everywhere else remains to be seen. They are the danger team IMO.

We've had a good midfield for the last 5 years. I feel like the inclusion of Stefan Martin might have the biggest impact if he can get up and going. Alongside Naughton staying injury free/getting through a pre season. We're still below average down back at stopping scores.

So let’s just do the same idiotic thing we’ve done for 15 years by almost topping up. :/

Dodos fault.

No they did the right thing, i said that in another post. They needed to rebuild and have started doing so. I disagree that it drastically changes the long term outlook of the team at this stage.

Weird opinion this

Do you just trot this out when you don't have a reasonable counter point?

I think they did the right move, i DON'T think it means they have a brighter outlook in the future purely because they got younger. What part of that is weird?

You said by getting younger projects us to be no different if we stayed the same way.

Wouldn’t us getting younger give us an opportunity to have a higher ceiling than what we are currently tottering out?
