"The squad is not finalised at this stage. The playing list will comprise a primary list of up to 12 open-age players, and a development list of up to 18 players aged 22 and under.
In the lead up to the 2021 East Coast VFL season, players in the squad can train twice a week with the senior Sydney Swans program.
The season will start in April 2021 and be played over 16 rounds."
(Still no schedule I believe).
Not clear how players on the Primary List will be counted towards those numbers.
I think Charlie said 16 players were committed so far. If so, some names yet to be made public. Hope Paddy McCartin is one. No ruckman in that video!

Thanks, don't do Insta. Is he the ex-rugby kid?
Yes, the only thing I could find on him was the reference to him in this article

Thanks. Most of the guys mentioned in that article have gotten a contract. Rugby lock is a good grounding to be a ruck. Have to be strong and mobile with good hands. Think John Eales!

As bedford said elsewhere... Ben Silvagni is an interesting one. What happened there? Is he based in Sydney now or something?

His dad being a part of GWS for so many years makes me think he probably spent a lot of time in Sydney during his adolescence. Might have links he wants to further explore up here I suppose.

A Carlton supporter posted during the draft period that the Swans were looking at rookie listing him, so it doesn't seem to be a location-driven opportunist move. They've clearly been putting some work into the decision. The recruitment team obviously see potential and upside.

So Aspley, Southport, Lions, Gold Coast, GWS & ourselves will actually be playing in the VFL this season, forget all this East Coast nonsense. :rolleyes:

To quote Tom Harley;
“The VFL is an iconic and storied competition,” Swans CEO Tom Harley told Nine last year.

“I think it is important that the heritage of that competition is retained, however with the inevitable inclusion of teams outside Victoria playing in a newly formatted competition, the name should rightly reflect that - very similar to what occurred when the AFL was formed.”
