NFL Network's Tom Pelissero expects the Texans to hire Pep Hamilton as quarterbacks coach.
One thing's for sure: Hamilton -- who was reportedly in the running to be the Dolphins' new offensive coordinator -- won't get a shot to coach Deshaun Watson, who has officially requested a trade. Hamilton in 2020 coached the XFL's D.C. Defenders before becoming the Chargers' quarterbacks coach, working with rookie phenom Justin Herbert. Hamilton is credited with developing Andrew Luck at Stanford and with the Colts, where Hamilton served as offensive coordinator from 2013-2015. He could be a critical hire if Houston rolls with an inexperienced quarterback in 2021.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Lions will hire Mark Brunell as QBs coach.
Brunell was also reportedly drawing interest from the Jaguars. The 50-year-old has never served as a coach, spending some of the first 10 years of his retirement working in media, where he famously cried on ESPN over Tom Brady's alleged role in "Deflategate." That kind of passion will play on Dan Campbell's fired-up coaching staff. The initial problem for Brunell is that he doesn't know which quarterback he will be coaching with Matthew Stafford likely on the way out. Brunell will have 18 years of playing experience to draw on, but the game has changed a lot during his decade away.

Seahawks hired Rams assistant OL coach Andy Dickerson as running-game coordinator.
Dickerson, who has been with the Rams nine seasons, is following new Seahawks OC Shane Waldron to Seattle. The Rams have had consistently creative running game designs under coach Sean McVay, so it is a good gamble for coach Pete Carroll as he looks to revamp his offense following its 2020 second half collapse.

Texans hired Fr Joseph Angel and Sr Mary for....stuff. Friar Bob and Vestal Virgin Vera Tightwad hired for ....other stuff and running game duties
All will report to the Holy one Jack Easterby and twice on Sundays. Amen

Titans promoted Shane Bowen to defensive coordinator.
Bowen has been Tennessee's outside linebackers coach the last three seasons. The Titans went without a defensive coordinator last year after Dean Peas left, but Bowen took on a larger role. He'll be officially promoted this season, though HC Mike Vrabel may still handle the playcalling, so this isn't much of a change. Tennessee was 24th in points allowed and 28th in yards allowed under Vrabel and Bowen in 2020.

Texans hired Lovie Smith as defensive coordinator.
Smith returns to the NFL after spending the last five years as the head coach at Illinois. He'll serve as the defensive playcaller for first-time HC David Culley. A Texas native, Smith gives Houston experience and a proven track record at the coordinator position, though he's never had a great winning percentage, going 89-87 overall as a head coach and 17-39 with Illinois. The Texans are staying in-house with OC Tim Kelly, but the pairing of Smith and Culley should improve a defense that allowed the third-most yards in the league last season.

Titans promoted Todd Downing to offensive coordinator.
Downing replaces Arthur Smith, who was hired as the Falcons' head coach this offseason. This is Downing's second stint as an offensive coordinator, as he previously served as Raiders' playcaller in 2017. The Titans never showed much outside interest, with Texans QB coach Pep Hamilton the only other candidate to interview for the job. With Downing promoted, Tennessee may look to hire a defensive coordinator after going without one last season.

Colts hired ex-Eagles pass-game coordinator Press Taylor as a senior offensive assistant.
Taylor will reunite with coach Frank Reich after the two previously spent time together in Philadelphia under Doug Pederson. Taylor, Philadelphia's quarterbacks coach the past three years, only recently earned the title of pass-game coordinator in 2020, which ultimately led to his release after the team failed to show any signs of life in that department. Taylor's title likely cements him into the same role that pass game specialist Kevin Patullo had before following Nick Sirianni to the Eagles.

Lions hired Dom Capers as a senior defensive assistant.
Capers, 70, turned down a defensive coordinator job with the Bengals two years ago before being hired by the Jaguars as a senior defensive assistant. The Lions needed some experience in the building with Dan Campbell taking on head coaching duties.

Falcons hired T.J. Yates as pass-game coordinator.
Yates spent that last two years with the Texans as an offensive assistant and quarterbacks coach. With new HC David Culley bringing in his own staff, he'll resurface with the Falcons, who Yates played for in 2014. Falcons coach Arthur Smith will call his own plays, but Yates will work closely with Smith and OC Dave Ragone.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky reports Rams safeties coach Ejiro Evero is a candidate for the Packers' defensive coordinator vacancy.
Evero joins Washington DBs coach Chris Harris and Chargers defensive passing game coordinator Joe Barry. Barry previously served as Washington's defensive coordinator. Evero has spent the past four years coaching the Rams' safeties, working with Packers head coach Matt LaFleur before he landed Green Bay's top job.

The Vikings are interviewing Giants wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert for the team's offensive coordinator opening.
Tolbert would bring continuity to the Minnesota offense since he worked under former Vikings offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak in Denver during their run to Super Bowl 50. Tolbert, a coach in the league since 2003, has coached Giants receivers for the past three years, developing wideouts Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton. Tolbert worked with Emmanuel Sanders, Wes Welker, Eric Decker, and Demaryius Thomas during Peyton Manning's dominant years in Denver. He's a legit contender to inherit Kubiak's job in Minnesota.

A few things came out about Goff wanting out because LA became toxic and didnt want to take the blame for McVays failures since the league figured him out. and been compared to how Gruden treats QB's.

Yea, I get that sense with McVay too, happy to take the credit when things go well, happy to point the finger if things go bad.

Must be nice having a spot like that where you can't do any wrong either way.

That's why with this Stafford move I said, he's got nowhere to hide anymore I'm afraid

Goff was on a hiding to nothing either. I could imagine that it would be pretty frustrating and that you'd want the chance to prove you can be a perfectly capable qb without him. Would be getting sick of hearing the same old s**t.

Well peoples opinion of Stafford sure changed over the weekend. If the rams fail it will fall on both. I think a little more will fall on Matt since Rams got to the Super Bowl with Mcvay and Goff, Stafford has had players to throw to most of his time in Detroit. Not like Jones Jr or Megatron are bums and never did anything. Tate was still good when he was there. but how will the Rams OL hold up and Stafford has history of taking hits and missing time.

Stafford is a good QB, but not great let alone elite, He is a Eli/Rivers type. you could even put players like Alex Smith or McNab in the same class, same with Jimmy G or Kirk. He is good enough to win, and the Rams are all in for next season.

When you give up as much as the Rams did to get Stafford you're essentially saying that it's a massive upgrade. That's why I say McVay has nowhere to hide.

Public perception of Stafford doesn't matter. The trade tells you the Rams believe he is far better than what Goff is.

Read some stat where Stafford has only had like a dozen 100 yd running games for his rbs from his 160 odd starts. Article didn’t mention that Lions teams were behind early a lot of the time and running game had to be abandoned. But still he’s never had an excellent running game

Jaguars hired ex-Seahawks OC Brian Schottenheimer as pass-game coordinator.
Schottenheimer will work alongside new coach Urban Meyer and OC Darrell Bevell after he was fired from the Seahawks last month following Seattle's sputtering end to the season. Schottenheimer's Seattle offenses were so scared to pass the ball, so "pass-game coordinator" is a curious title for him in his new city. But the title probably doesn't mean a whole lot. After spending six years as the Jets' OC, this will be Schottenheimer's fifth job over the last 10 seasons.
