Would be extremely surprised/annoyed if McDonald wasn't added to the squad given injuries to our talls.

Looks like Pitto will do the bulk of the ruck work with Levi as a chopout.

No more injuries ffs, especially to our other talls

I think its more of a ruck issue, rather than talls in general. We seem to have plenty of talls down back. We need another ruckman on the list.

Never heard of a horse in tuition. That is a very specialised field of education. Or is it when they try the blinkers........ you know, on a horse that gets spooked :p

Does it have to be one of the blokes we have training now though ? If they say well Moore is a slightly better ruck than McDonald and give him another year I will almost vomit , I personally would rather look at the other available rucks even Majak Daw would be worth looking at I reckon .

I personally think it's the opposite.

If one of Jones or Weiters was to be injured, Casboult would be the one to replace. Knowing that Charlie is out indefinitely, and it's very likely that a combination of injuries to Harry, Gov or JSOS will occur, all of a sudden our KPF levels are low.

Whilst we have three ruck options in Levi, Pitto and TDK, our key position stocks at both ends of the ground are very low.

That's why I would pick Xavier Maher, a kid who could be something, given his lack of exposure last year, over 3rd rate KP wannabees, who look good on paper but are not AFL standard. If one of Jones or Weiters goes down, is Mcdonald going to be a better KPB than Marchbank, Levi or Jsos?

Yes, because JSOS/Marchbank are not key position defenders. Meanwhile, Levi will be covering up forward for Charlie during most, if not the whole year. Whichever way you look at it, we are one solid KP player short.

Henry Walsh please, if he is half as good as his brother; should be out no.1 ruck in a few years.

For a guy that didn't get drafted, that no. 1 ruck status is a massive stretch, even in a compromised draft. And what about TDK? Are we just writing him off after a standard minor stress fracture?

I've been thinking the same.....if we're taking on board a 'break in case of emergency' player, Majak would seem to have more to offer than either McDonald or Moore.

I don't rate McDonald at all, and I'm not sure where Moore fits in - he's not a KPP or a genuine ruck option. At least Majak can play either role as a KPD or ruck. Even at VFL level, he'd be a good ruck option to assist the development of our young mids.

Having said all that crap, I reckon McDonald will get the nod.

I would have liked to have taken him but with TDK going down we need a back up for now and Walsh would be more of a long term option unfortunately .
While were at it Sam’s younger brother is a gun goal kicking machine, too.. was it on here i posted about my brother in law asking him bout footy? That was a funny story - brother in law “so you kicked over 100 goals this season, you must be the best footballer in your family! Boys sheepish reply “well.... my brother is Sam Walsh...”

We are thin KPD and ruck and have to look at the best options that are available. McDonald has been at least adequate for a decent length of time and has been replaced by the May/Lever combo. Jones turns 30 in the next month, but by no means is a dinosaur. He has a durable body and good athleticism so it is feasible he has in the vicinity of three years left. Our need is a ready to go back up, who can still be there if we find a suitable youngster to draft in the next year or two.
He is in the fold, if he is holding his own, it is a no brainer.

I have a feeling that any decent ready to go ruck prospects out there have already been taken up. We gain nothing by taking a kid as a knee jerk to TDK's injury. Pitto carried the ruck last year when Kreuze and TDK were both unavailable for a stretch. Levi and Jones/McKay are break glass options, with Harry touted by Teague as doing some ruck work in the preseason. Really can't see us reaching for another ruck. Feeling that we must stay the course with what has been outlined. With a number of medium to long term injuries, I will not be surprised if we add Maher as well. Seems a good prospect. We have accrued plenty of mids and there will probably be a bit of a reckoning at the end of the season. It doesn't hurt to "trial" another one if the list spot is available.

Stocker, Dow and Cuningham have two years on contracts and Philp three, but this fact will not stop suitors calling if they don't get significant game time. I am ultra bullish on Stocker finding a spot in the 22 by season's end. The other mids and peripheral types likely will have to perform or perish. O'Brien and Kennedy are both personal favourites of mine, but certainly have no guarantees of extension beyond this season. I have been ultra supportive of Cottrell and Ramsay, who both will be required to significantly up the ante to survive, with Josh Honey seemingly assured of a future by reports filtering through. New boys Durdin and Carroll have time on their side as does the "untried" Kemp. I can't see the dedication and endeavour of Owies giving him a career beyond his final Cat B season given the options seemingly ahead of him.
