You look at their batting lineup and IIRC only one of them averages over 40.

Maybe Rahane should've stayed captain

So he's likely to take many wickets against us.

I like the way Pant goes about it, but he just threw away the easiest Test 100 he was gonna make.

Kyle Mayers for the Windies with 210* on debut, in one of the biggest successful run chases ever.

Maybe the SACA should look at the reasons why they'll vote no
Interesting that SACA seem to be using the same tactics they did when they wanted Port and West Torrens to merge 5-6 years ago

I'm no expert on the local cricket scene but aren't these clubs miles away from each other? Seems a strange combo to try and merge

Yes and no

Their ovals/clubrooms are quite a way apart but their zones are adjoining

The strange thing is that strategically Southern Districts should be quite an important club for cricket in SA. Large, growing metropolitan area. First club of choice for country cricket south of Adelaide to come to - Strathalbyn, Goolwa, Willunga, Kangaroo Island etc.

That they've struggled is because SACA has been unable to get people from lower socio economic areas to play cricket. Same with areas that are culturally diverse. They don't play cricket unless from the subcontinent and already familiar with it. The rich leafy suburbs full of Anglo Saxon families play the game in great numbers. Everyone else doesn't.

Seems quite defeatist to put Southern Districts in the too hard basket.

For some reason our national selectors show absolutely no faith in genuine swing bowlers in this country either.
Chadd Sayers said as much. Whether it be Lehmann or Langer, if you're not pushing 140kph or 6ft3 you'll not stand a chance

That suggests it is a more systemic problem than the coach, or possibly even the selectors then. Afterall, the last genuine swing bowler that we had that I can think of that took over 150 test wickets was Terry Alderman.

It's almost as if the art of swing bowling is an afterthought. Given how poorly we've faced it in recent times it shouldn't be.

Just run in and bowl fast

It is also because they average more runs against because they pitch the ball up, so therefore deliver more "4 balls" than the 6 foot 3 inch 145km/h short pitch/bouncer bowlers that we pick, that for the most part look ineffective.

Dale Steyn and Jimmy Anderson would never have been selected for us.
