Probably time for this year's thread given the first intake of players has been named;

Coach; Jeremy Laidler

Jake Bartholomaeus (QBE Sydney Swans Academy / Sydney University)
Nick Brewer (QBE Sydney Swans Academy / North Shore Bombers)
Darcy Cordell (QBE Sydney Swans Academy/ UNSW Bulldogs)

"The squad is not finalised at this stage. The playing list will comprise a primary list of up to 12 open-age players, and a development list of up to 18 players aged 22 and under.
In the lead up to the 2021 East Coast VFL season, players in the squad can train twice a week with the senior Sydney Swans program.
The season will start in April 2021 and be played over 16 rounds."
(Still no schedule I believe).

I have heard paddy macartin is training with them. Is this a good sign we are to sign some sort of contract

If he goes concussion free for half a season I think we will pick him up in the mid season draft.
Sounds like a plan.
Have said for a long time that when Buddy, Sinkers and Reidy retire we will be one KPF short (assuming Tom stays at CHB).
This will give us three KPFs starting 2023 - McDonald (20), McLean (23) and Paddy (26).
Of course, it may not work out, but it is sure worth a shot.
Fingers crossed for his health!

Noticed 2 more players added, as well as Paddy;
Harry Maguire & Adam Gulden.

If Maguire is like his Man Utd namesake then good in air, but slow. :think:

Adam is Errol's older brother and son of Bron (asst coach in the Girl's Academy).

Harry Maguire from Pennant Hills Demons has been awarded the 2019 AFL Sydney Rising Star award.

Yeah any team....
However he's relocated to Sydney.
I'm sure every side will have their targets.

Thanks for digging those up.

They had to do that though , no way would you risk the main list

exactly what I was saying few months back

hope it works out
Even if he doesn't get picked up in the mid-season draft if he plays well I hope we rookie him next season

I expect Paddy has a team of trusted specialists in Sydney who will monitor him very closely. Given his circumstances and he is apparently happy in Sydney, I would be surprised if another Club picked him up ahead of us.

Interview with AFL football operations manager Steve Hocking;

Why is the new VFL called the VFL?
The new VFL is a mash-up of the old NEAFL and VFL, with 22 teams from three states.
Non-Victorian teams weren’t thrilled by the league retaining the VFL name, but Hocking says it stacked up.

“It’s just the rich history of the VFL name. It has got an unbelievable history and so we have retained that for that very reason. We understand there is some other version we could have come up with, but we have got a competition that is going to be really strong as far as the eastern states at an elite level and it’s going to support the AFL well.”

Yep the VFL/VFA does have a rich history, but with the inclusion of AFL reserve sides and especially non-Victorian teams it is now a complete bastardisation of the old VFL VFA and to retain the name is disrespectful to the non Vic sides, but even moreso to the traditions and history of the VFL VFA.

Edited, hopefully, for clarity.

I hope you don't mean the Modern VFL , if so it's more about the VFA

It's got such a rich history, dating back to the ancient days of 1996 when the VFA renamed itself into the VFL. So we clearly couldn't expect them to rename the competition again

"Rich history" didn't much ******* matter when they sent South to Sydney then shut down Fitzroy!

The name should describe what it is. It's that simple. I am a Victorian, the Football League is not. Or at least, it shouldn't be.
