The fact that they're 8x - 10x the size in square kms makes them also not apples and apples.
Not quite sure I follow. Did WA lockdown an area the size of Victoria then?

They're playing it safe. Better to do too much than not do enough and lose control is the mantra Vic has gone with. As has NZ which is currently seen to be going too far with 3 family cases and then 2 close contacts. When Vic didn't act quick enough and lost control last time was that a better outcome than this shorter 5 day clean up?The old "but what if " argument. What you are saying here is that Andrews can not be held accountable for his actions because there always will be a "what if" no matter how you look at things.

Sure ideally there's no slip ups at all. No community outbreaks through errors (nubiliser) or bad luck (frozen goods or airport laundry) would be the ideal scenario. But when there is an outbreak most people would feel it's better to go hard (some say too hard) and early and then get back to pre-COVID life next week. That's how most of the world is seeing both countries from afar
No.Victoria's pretty big. Yes or no answer - Do you think shutting down the Mallacoota Caravan Park for 5 days had any effect on containing the spread of covid19?
The lockdown was fine, it was just the extent of it.Like Loonerty said, if he didn't lockdown and we got cases in country Vic, people would have lost their minds.
No.
But do I think the Vic govt/police could get up a border to stop people from Vic metro into Vic country in 7 or 8 hours? No.
Should they be able to is another question entirely. Auckland is a much smaller city with only 3-4 checkpoints to get setup and they managed to get that sorted within 5.
You said this last time too, any deeper analysis behind that comment? After all as I responded, NSW did something else and no one complained, which sorta indicates a flaw in this observation.
The issue this time was they were afraid of the speed of the transmission even between close contacts. Too afraid of what has proven to be 70% more spreadable overseas. I'd rather that than not.But again, the issue last time was the cases with unknown sources. That's how the spread got out of control. If there were unknown cases again this time that's a completely different story.

Pivoting briefly, Barty looking very much in trouble.
And what happened to the people when they landed in the other states? Were they told to get tested and isolate? There were flights out of Melbourne interstate continuing.
Why didn't other states go into immediate 5 day stage 4 lockdown? I mean surely better safe than sorry right? Terminal 4 is also the domestic terminal and there was a covid hotspot there.
You don't need to setup a border either for a metro stage 4 lockdown.
Nope. Serve has gone down the drain and Muchova is hitting extremely well now.Nah perfect segue from my comment.
Is she injured?
My example of NSW was that the population won't just mindlessly complain. Cruyff was issuing a blanket statement that no matter what was done people would complain.
Of course people wouldn't complain if no cases made it out of metro Melb.My example of NSW was that the population won't just mindlessly complain. Cruyff was issuing a blanket statement that no matter what was done people would complain.
That was a joke. Won't blindly defend Andrews on poor decisions. But not afraid enough to cancel tickets to the tennis that night.

Everyone who had been through T4 was told to self-isolate until they had a negative test, at least into NSW that was the case. Had a colleague who had to do that having flown on the Sunday.

Yes.Yeah, I mean, what if the Sydney outbreak got out of control over Christmas? Would people have given Gladys a free ride if you had to do another major lockdown?
