My thinking is crypto betting sites will have a period in Australia where they take off but given how anal the Australian government is with off-shore bookmakers, I feel like it would only be a matter of time before they caught the loopholes. I Mean will be very easy for someone to 'dob' them in.

Just what you want. Find a nice winner at $10 and then find out your bet has lost 15% in value in the time it takes to run the race.
Yeh this seems like a mugs play to me. Not only are you trying to beat the market in sports but you're then gambling on the volatility of crypto unless you cash out quick.

Way too complicated for me but I'm sure some computer type boffins will make a mint from it

Neds tried launching a seperate crypto platform around 3 years ago. From memory it was stopped by regulators before it ever actually launched. It’s never happening here.
There is PlayUp who launched a PlayChip token. No idea on how it's going even though I hold some of it which they issued out for free as a deposit bonus. Meh.

Tabcorp might be getting sold to the umbrella company that owns Ladbrokes. Do you guys think that will help change anything with the in-play laws? seems like it was Tabcorp that was a major reason why in-play betting got banned in the first place.

Its killing me not having the option to in-play bet. Phoning up is impossible in most situations.

I can understand why TAB wouldn't want in-play betting. Dare I say it's not something that the TAB specialises in. They offer the product but the options are vastly inferior to what other European bookies/exchanges offer.

The governments in Australia are in effectively trying to protect the TAB and state TAB's as much as possible. Like EBAY, like Kogan, Like Amazon, eventually you want to get the best price or service. Make no mistake there is still a market for TAB's and In a way it may help them with their product.

I think the demand from customers would open eventually up and I'd imagine there would be a strong push.

This is 2021 not 2005. I do feel it might sooner rather than later.Customers in Australia are getting ripped off , and I actually there are some parts of in-play which would be less harmful to customers. I think there purpose of it was to protect customers (i read that from somewhere), not alot Australian money to go to offshore casinos, as well as the Australian business model and supporting them , keeping Aussie dollars in Australia etc etc

It's ridiculous in this country you can trade shares online, you can trade cryptocurrency online...yet you can't trade sports online. I honestly don't what the difference between those 3, its just the government having no idea about what sports trading is about.

I obviously don’t agree with it at all, but it’s not going to change and the sale of Tabcorp will have no effect on that. They argue it’s for ‘responsible gambling’ reasons and they won’t backflip on that, no matter how stupid it is.

Given the amount of extra tax they'd make by allowing live betting it just goes to show how incompetent yet another government agency is.

That said, if Sportsbet greased the wheels and took the right person out for a nice dinner and gave a gift on arrival I'm sure changes could be made quickly...

It all stems from the Xenephon crap and the lack of understanding about the wagering landscape.

Every other industry is forcing people towards online but the govt trying to hold back the tide because of some antiquated view it will create greater risk for vulnerable punters. News flash they will find another way to spend their coin.

Xenophon is the biggest myth of all time. WTF did he ever achieve in a long career in politics. F8cking nothing, he is a pleb (well paid one, however).

Spent decades wanting to cancel pokies, there's more now than ever, raking in more money than ever. Why anyone gave him a platform I'll never know. Absolute loser

Another thing is I've been putting up Game by Game betting odds in the tennis thread and , there is an unlikely chance of Australian punters of getting on those odds during a match.

I think for all, its the inconvenience of having to ring up by which team the odds have disappear or the event has already started.

Anyway like I said before with the technology advancing a hell of a lot more, i really do believe crypto betting exchanges will take over. And yes I am crypto investor but I'd imagine the betting landscape will be a lot different from what it was in 2005 to say 2025 or 2035.

Given what has gone on with Facebook and Google today, the Australian government doesn't follow the trends of what is happening globally.

Tend to agree with this to an extent. Once enough people are betting overseas live and costing Betfsir and sportsbet etc money, itll be opened up here...

Maybe by then itll be too late and people are gone but i doubt it. They'll come back and live betting will be on here sooner rather than later but the fact it hasnt already is nothing but government incompetence. Old people in these positions havent a clue

I listed SA gambling laws here a while back. Its really run by clueless fossils. When they die/retire, we will see change

There was a time I lived in WA, and Betfair was banned there for a period of 1 year legislated by the Racing Gambling Commission back then Mark McGowan (who is now the state premier of WA).

One thing for sure is the more political this is, the less chance it will ever be changed.

One of the things about Sportsbet with Premier League, is you can't multi multiple players to get a Yellow card or multiple players on 'Shots on Target'

I mean its good that they offer the Same Game Multi option as there aren't many other options in Australia.
