It's not actually simulation if there's contact, whether he initiated it or not.

Still none of those were pens IMO, the last one was probably the closest to it.

It is still simulation. According to IFAB, "an action which creates a wrong/false impression that something has occurred when it has not (see also Deceive); committed by a player to gain an unfair advantage " and "attempts to deceive the referee, e.g. by feigning injury or pretending to have been fouled."

There is nothing in the rules about there having to be no contact for it to be simulation.

How often.does that actually get called ?? Almost never.

The problem.lays with the VAR, not Stefan Mauk. Let's be honest, if it were a man in purple you'd have no complaints....and you've got some divers.

I have said the whole time (probably 4 or 5 posts) that this call is on the VAR.

Whether it gets called often or not, they are the rules. It can still be simulation if there is contact which is the point I was responding to. You insinuated that it is not simulation because there was contact but the rules say different.

It wasn't clear that he didn't initiate the contact at first.

About 15 minutes earlier Matt Simon went off his line and dropped the shoulder into Javi Lopez, it ended up as a Mariners free kick.

Not much has been made of that I see.

But again, VAR must be abolished. I can live with refa making errors because it generally levels out (not tonight), but when the technology is there and it fails then there's no point having it.

If that was Sydney social media would of imploded.
As it was it already did.

Pretty much any other team in the A League really, Wanderers fans would've burnt the server to the ground.

A-League admits mistakes and vows to fix VAR

A day after the Adelaide United versus Central Coast Mariners match erupted in controversy after the home team were awarded three contentious penalties that were sanctioned by VAR, the A-League said it would double its efforts to find a better way to implement the technology.

O'Rourke suggested that the way forward might be to review and improve the subjective side of VAR given the league is comfortable with its performances in terms of clear-cut decisions like offsides.

"The problem with VAR is not the technology itself but its subjectivity," O'Rourke said.

"VAR is really helping in offside decisions where the issues are clear cut and subjectivity is not required.

"It is a fact that VAR has been a huge help in many instances concerning offsides this season.

"In tennis, for example, technology is used to determine if a ball is in our out. That's the issue and VAR needs to be modified maybe in such a way that the level of contact when fouls are awarded, for example, should be left to the referee on the field.

"The issues regarding hand ball are different because they are subject to the laws of the game so referees must follow them.

"For example the third penalty awarded for 'hands' on Friday night was a penalty under the laws of the game but the other two were subject to the interpretation of the referee as to the level of contact.

"But the referees got it wrong in at least one of those two penalty decisions.

"VAR should not be thrown out because of this and we should not put ourselves in a position of not allowing ourselves to be supported by technology when every other part of every day life is."

The A-League has captured the imagination of many thousands of fans with the quality of play shown by most teams that has produced a number of highly entertaining matches.

But the controversial use of technology continues to rile many fans, prompting questions as to why do the powers-that-be persist with a system that in the eyes of many is not working and damaging the game's appeal.

O'Rourke disputed rumours that the A-League or Football Australia are contractually or legally bound by FIFA to retain VAR.

"VAR has been adopted by all the major leagues in the world but, yes, we can stop it any time if we want to," he said.

"We have no obligation to keep going with it."

Least they are admitting VAR is s**t in its current form. through it was more than VAR being s**t last night the ref was too.

Both these teams and Jekyll and Hyde types.

Some nice play by WU though, very nice indeed.

Macarthur have been publicly stated and criticised as such. Strangely they usually win away from home. Apparently not today, didn't watch bit looks ugly.

yeah Kurt Ams, But according to Speedy the VAR didn't think it worthy of him to go take a look on the sideline monitor on the Jets two penalty calls.
The whole situation is a joke IMO

Or the Thurgate goal. O’Donovan looked pretty clearly offside and blocking the view of the goalkeeper.

Honestly should not have to take so long to make a decision by VAR and the ref. One minute should be the max, If no decision is made, upheld!
Common sense would suggest that if it takes a minute worth of slow motion replays to make a decision the original one wasnt a "howler" worth reversing. Evidently none of these idiots work on common sense...
