That stitching on the home guernsey... Why is this style becoming more popular?

I believe it causes less points of friction on the body as the overlapped material that is seen with a completely inside style stitched guernsey/jersey doesn't exist with this style. Basically comfort over aesthetics.
 
South Adelaide will wear a navy guernsey in home games for the first time this season. Have worn hoops in their first 3 seasons.
