Im hoping JDG and Sidey play mid alongside Adams, Pendles. If that happens there's no spot for another full time mid. We'll need flankers who can rotate through for the extra minutes. I think he'll need injuries to get a good run.
Need at least 1 extra genuine mid imo, and Sidey will likely spend time forward and on a wing too.

I don't know If other teams do it, I'm trying to understand the logic behind why we do it.
Gym/indoor sessions, recovery, team meetings, work functions, most VFL games being played in the day and that there probably is a clause in the EBA giving players the right to not constantly work unsociable hours outside of game day. There's also the issue of staff having to work the same unsociable hours to train the players.

And what about training at 9am everyday when we play our games at 8pm? Is that also completely meaningless?

Yes. Players are not 2 year olds. They can handle changes to their routine.

Out of interest, are we any different in our approach to other clubs? After all, Geelong was also on the field at the same time.

We couldn't of used the ground the day before or the day after?

It just seems mind-blowingly stupid to me having the team train and play from 9am-11am when you can count on 1 hand the amount of AFL games we have starting before 2pm... If you want players to get good sleeping habits and get used to training in the same conditions they play, why don't we do night time training?
You should be questioning why we're using GMHBA at all if you are so hung up on the particulars of the match.

But he was sighted and quite prominent in 2018. I believe he holds the key to our midfield success. He has size and skill which our other midfielders lack. With Cal Brown and Bianco added to the midfield we looked undersized against Geelong, and Sier provided some much needed balance. If the Bear doesn't fire, our midfield is not going to cut it against the better teams.
😂 “The key to our midfield success.” Our you doing a set at the comedy festival because you are hilarious.

Sier hasn’t had a decent run at it in ages for various reasons including injuries. He needs to be given the same opportunities as cal brown has been gifted to develop, and then decisions can be made. no point bringing in kids for the odd game here and there. He’s shown his best is good enough, needs to be given consistent block of matches to develop and gain confidence. We need to be utilising this season to develop or make decisions on C brown, sier, Murphy and co.

We have small midfielders with Sier our one big body.

Pendles, JDG and Adams are not “small” mids. If anything I’d say we’re on the bigger side of midfields. Brisbane for instance have a starting midfield with only CEY rivalling Pendles, JDG, T Brown and Sier in size. The rest are pretty much Collingwood 6 footers. Richmond too have only Martin over 185cm with Prestia, Lambert and Bolton sub 180cm.

FWIW the clubs media department really bringing out the old VFL encouragement award best players.

I had forgotten De Goey! Pendles is 190 cm but doesn't have huge physical presence at clearances. Adams is solid and tough. I still think Sier would give us a lift if he succeeds in the inside mid roll. If we are so blessed for big bodied mids, why was Rupert Wills gifted so many games the last 2 years?

My take on Wills getting so much time is that they wanted a better balance between offence and defence through there. Treloar was a 90-10 mid in terms of his offence and defence whereas Wills was maybe a 30-70. We always struggled whenever a Greenwood or Wills couldn’t provide a buffer.

It seems counter intuitive, but with Treloar gone we should see our transition improve because more players tipping in defensively gives us better field position (how often did opponents walk it out of stoppages v us last year) and our defenders can then take more aggressive positions on the field. With better field position comes more repeat opportunities and inevitably more scoring. The only argument that stacks up in us being worse off for losing Treloar and Phillips is ball winning, but I think we overused it in 19-20 with Treloar the biggest culprit.

The club also wants CP to be our one wood so if it’s a 50/50 call they’ll always go bigger through there. I agree re Pendles not having an overwhelming presence, but opponents have been quoted saying he is the hardest player to shift off the ball in the league. Tying it all in to yesterday Sier can offer something extra for our midfield, but he needs to find more easy ball if he wants to recapture that 2018 form. I’d also suggest he starts bringing some of that off field personality on field because he’s super passive in the way he plays...

So there's no difference in conditions between playing at 9am and 9pm? And what about impacting sleeping patterns? Keep digging.

I’d say it’s mostly a matter of logistics. No other clubs have had a night practice game. It’s not as big of a deal as you’re making it out to be.

Sier, JDG and Pendles are all over 190cm, and Adams, while not overly tall, is a nuggety wrecking ball. We also have Tyler Brown and Reef developing who are 190cm+. Our midfield has some deficiencies, but as far as size goes, our actual starting lineup certainly wouldn’t be regarded as small, although it did seem that way yesterday with both Adams and Jordy not playing.

Thats an AFL issue not a club one. All clubs train at similar times. You have the AFLPA contact hours to deal with.

Fair enough. I don't rate Tyler Brown and Reef is some time away from AFL. JDG and Adams are often injured.

We did have the intra-club last Friday night and sometimes we train at night during the finals. Once the season starts we play at night most matches so would get accustomed to this slot.
