I think we need someone who understands footy, not a bland, purely admin type

and certainly not someone who thinks a 5 day course he took 8 years ago is the pinnacle

we must be able to do better than that
So, based on something in his header on LinkedIn, we've decided this guy is a s**t candidate?

Not the fact that he's headed operations for one of the greatest clubs of the last 20 years?

And we obviously want someone who wants the job so he can interfere with the footy department?

Maybe let the process unfold, and see which candidate emerges before we grab the pitchforks.

no, just a bit of a dick.

We already had someone with a pure operations focus. That wasn’t where he went wrong

And we obviously want someone who wants the job so he can interfere with the footy department?

Definitely don’t want someone who understands footy, don’t need someone to build the culture and bring all areas of the club together in a footy first focus.

wonder what he thinks about esports ;)

Been at Hawthorn for 17 years in a variety of roles, sounds like a well rounded candidate from a very well run organisation.

Would like to know how involved in football matters he wants to be.
Was Hawthorn's interim CEO for four months in 2017. I think overseeing the operations of such a large successful club is a pretty reasonable background to have. Obviously is looking for a CEO role for his next opportunity.

Well, I think Fagan did actually fail at the operations of an AFL club. There was a bunch of decisions that took attention and resources away from where they would have been best spent.

We excel at getting the pitchforks out

definitely. Though 4 months interim is also unsuccessful applicant after having had a try out in the big chair.

Nigel Smart was our COO, interim CEO for a while, and unsuccessful candidate last time too

FWIW I don’t think this guy is going to be it. He has the good club shine, but I reckon we will go for a vozzo/ Noble type.

my objection is how prominently he’s featuring it.

might as well tout your Hollywood experience from that universal studios tour you took last summer
Might just be LinkedIn though, it always puts the most recently listed qualification up there if Im not mistaken.

edit sorry, I see that's already been raised.

To be fair, their selected choice lasted a few months before they moved on and then the president stood down so fair to say they missed the mark. Then again, wasn't selected the next time so they had a preferred candidate.

qualification!?!!
Yeah it's a bizarre thing with LinkedIn, if you mention it then it goes to the top of your page.

It's also amazing how many "high-level" employees from various organisations are very lax when it comes to updating their profiles.

It puts up there whatever you type into the "business name" field when you add another experience. You have to go back and uncheck boxes to stop it doing that automatically.

Source: it did that to me when I added something to LinkedIn a couple of weeks ago.

Pittman!

So, why do we think Pittman has the expertise?

He's spent the last 28 years at Taylor Collison, specialising in investment in small cap industrial stocks.

That feels like a very different industry.

Very intelligent man, knows the landscape and the footy club. Has been outside of it for a long time too

Sure.

But being a CEO in a high performance sporting environment takes a lot more than knowing your way around a club. It takes a very particular skill base and Pittman hasn't ever done anything like that. He makes a portfolio of investments in small-to-medium mining and resources companies.

Good post.

I'm more interested to hear about his experience & influence at the Hawks during mostly a successful period.

Studies are great to give a grounding, but nothing beats relevant managerial experience.

Supposedly we approached the ‘pathetic’ one to be chair of the board

wonder if David Pittman could be tempted as CEO?
Would be more interested in getting Pittman on our board as think that would be better for his skill set.

C7 mentioned last night that Fagan has left the building.

Suggests we are pretty close to finding his replacement. They suggested the COO from Hawthorn was the favourite.
So who is acting CEO, given our non-relevant COO also has gone?
