We are indeed limited in our knowledge of consciousness. But one thing we do know is that consciousness is not a computer. It is not simply an advanced data processor.

Have you seen how his falcon rockets can land back on earth in unison and be reused? Obviously it wasn't all him personally who achieved such an engineering feat, but he made it happen.

As for AI, look up the technological "singularity". Basically, once we build a machine or code that is capable of making a superior version of itself. That new AI can then make an even more superior version of itself. Within a day it could be running the earth, "conscious" or not.

He's not a theorist like those you mention, so you're comparing the wrong kind of genius. Musk is an industrialist. As good as Gates or Hughes.

Private rocket ship companies and electric vehicle makers were head in the cloud industries when Musk got involved. Tesla has disrupted car tech like no manufacturer since Ford and SpaceX rockets are doing s**t no one has done before.

He didn't just throw money and some of it stuck, he's got a solid record of getting "impossible" projects of the ground.
