Just saw the new AFL add, all about kicks after the siren to win the game. They show Nic Nats mark against North, yet not one shot of Shuey’s 17 EF. Surely that’s one of the most important after the siren kicks of all time?? They show Robbie gray lining up from last year, Ash McGrath from years ago, regular season trash. Why would they not show Shuey, or even Govs from the year after?? Not claiming bias, but just typical AFL promo garbage that overlooks us most of the time.

Yeah but also a bummer they don't have carlton's after the siren win against freo!
The freo melts would've been epic

In hindsight it shouldn't have been a free kick, Shuey lifted his arm, they probably didn't want to deal with the controversy associated with it.

Also Basil's commentary was dreadful covering the moment too.

It's just a marketing thing. Nic Nat is the most recognisable Eagles player and you need to try and get the most teams into the promo as possible (so no team will get two moments).

He’s not really wrong if you look at results though. You’d be ignorant to write us off as a threat but the facts are from 2016 till now with the squad we have, we’ve majorly underachieved, especially in finals. 2 home elimination losses and 2 semi final losses. 1 result that’s a prelim or better that entire time is very disappointing honestly. We should have made multiple GFs and possibly won at least another flag.

When was the last time we lost a final at home before Simmo took over? 1991 against Hawks?

I'm pretty happy with the highs (played in GF both times we made top 2) but losing home elimination finals is pretty poor. The biggest problem is that the team is either "on" (2015 QF, 2017 EF, 2018) or rolls over (2016 EF, Q1 2020).

2007 vs Collingwood

we lost in ET and last year by a point. Hardly rolled over.

I think of rolling over as those pissy finals in the late 90s.

96 v Ess
97 v Adel
98 v Bull
99 v Carl

Just nothing games never in them for a second Zzzz

The Essendon and Carlton games should have been home games to us, we got screwed by the MCC agreement

It’s his thing to ‘rock the boat’ but he’s not wrong - most of the media are tip toeing around it for some reason, but the vast majority have us around 5th-7th this year aka No Man’s Land (when you are a successful club). It’s not unrealistic though, with a handful of injuries to key players and other teams on the rise, that we drop a few more than expected and finish 10th-12th this year.

We are relying on Darling, McGovern, Kelly, Shuey (gulp) and Yeo (GULP!) recapturing their best form after underwhelming 2020 seasons.

We need Cripps and Redden to bounce back too before they go the way of Masten and Jetta and get tapped on the shoulder.

Continued improvement from established players that could potentially go to another level in Ryan, Barrass, Sheed and Duggan.

Maintained form from Sheppard, Gaff and Naitanui (which is completely up in the air by the way, due to quarters returning to full length and him not being able to run out full games).

The young talent is thin on the ground, led by Oscar Allen and then...uhhh uh oh...mostly untried/raw talent. Not much expectations there outside of Oscar.

On top of that, we still need Kennedy and Hurn to play top level footy for another year.

A lot has to go right this year if we are any chance of getting above that 5th-7th mark, and not that much has to go wrong for us to drop below it.

What did Cripps do wrong, was playing really good footy then went home for his child's birth.

Really?

He was down on his best - I think he’d agree with that.

His 1st time averaging under a goal a game since his first year with the club (kicked 9 in 14 games). Considering Ah Chee (6/16) and Waterman (9/10) didn’t really kick goals either - and without Willie Rioli - that really nurtured the goal scoring options for us in 2020, a big part of what Cripps brings to the table, outside of his forward line pressure.

We need him kicking 25 plus in 2021 - I don’t think thats a stretch.
