Once tassie stop ponying up the $4m each year for north to play there each year, the Roos will be in trouble. I doubt Tassie wants them as a permanent team down there and im not sure they are financially viable without the tassie support moving forward.

I think its worth more than $4mill as the gate, memberships, other sponsorships, Merch etc.

I think whatever happens, North are gone.

Thats because even if we don't get our own team, I recon we'll only want one FIFO club here begging for the cash.

If North can't survive living in Melbourne, without playing games here, then they don't really deserve to be an AFL club anyway.

It’s North.

They’ll go sell their games to someone else.

These AFL memberships should not be renewed or transferable once the member gives up the membership or dies. This shoud have been the case since Waverley shut. These seats are then opened up to club members of the various home clubs or become public seats. This will dissipate one of the many conflicts/Victorian Advantages imbedded in the ground/structure of the comp and will open up more seating to the members of competing clubs on GF day.
How naive you are. Those seats will just become corporatised.

Level 3 in the AFL Members’ Reserve at the MCG is now the domain of the Medallion Club; and level 2 is at least 75% dining packages only.

You think eliminating the AFL Membership will give those seats back to the people? I have a bridge I’d like to sell you, my learned friend.

The Age C. Wilson 26.3.21

Wilson states that G. McLachlan is likely to depart the AFL at the end of 2021- & B. Gale, a Tasmanian, is "the hot favourite" of the Club Presidents to replace him.
Gale's appointment would be a plus for Tas. to become the 19th team, although a decision may be made by the end of the year, whilst Mc Lachlan is still CEO.

Wilson also states that, from 2023-2024, the AFL Rights will be $475m pa, cf. the NRL $300m pa. (Nine's reduced contract for 2020-2022 cut the NRL's $ by c. $119m- no extension yet agreed, unlike Foxtel 2020-2027 extended deal).

This record amount for the AFL, & greater financial strength cf the NRL, would also give confidence to the AFL to accept a Tas. 19th team c. 2025.
The NRL & V'landys will not divulge their new, post 28.5.20 Rights' deal (embarrassed by the haircut?)- but V'landys claimed he got a strong deal.

Does the NRL TV rights have anything to do with Tasmania getting their own side? Caro is obsessed with the dick measuring between the AFL and the NRL. It has absolutely nothing to do with a Tasmanian AFL team. Not sure why she has to shoe horn it into the argument.
She's a Harridan

Don't forget the pokies.
So what or who is keeping the Power viable?

After taking in to account one-off COVID-19 related and restructuring costs of $1.186m, depreciation and non-cash balance sheet adjustments, the Port Adelaide Football Club incurred a statutory loss of $4,040,579.

As a result, the club finished the season with additional borrowings of $4.275 million, increasing its overall debt position to $12 million.

Should the Power relocate to Tasmania given their parlous financial position?

They could rebrand as the Tassie Hydro Power.

There’s a readymade sponsor.

Green and teal aren’t dissimilar. It’s not hard to redesign the guernsey given the colour palette. Just replace teal with green.

In these days of progressive, environmental causes, think of the marketing synergies.

You can even adapt the song - “Never Tas Us Apart”.

It all makes sense.

Yep that’s my point. If you want the MCG as a home ground & home to the gf. No sending clubs to tassie, Darwin etc home games at the sides home ground. Which for mcg tenant clubs should be the mcg. It allows for more familiarity to the ground, especially for non Victorian clubs. That’s the thing that stuck with me, from a financial perspective I understood why they kept it there but from an integrity’s perspective it’s still a terribly unfair setup. Older People talk about how Melbourne was a powerhouse in the middle of last century but it was no coincidence it was because they had the mcg to themselves. How many premierships do they win if the GF is at princes park?

Considering we've never played Carlton in a Grand Final I can guarantee we'd still have 12 😉

I guess your club's major sponsor has become the AFL given the funds it has gouged out of it.

Think like your flag your comment is misplaced (but you must be pleased to get some attention), the thread is about tassie potentially ending deals with Hawthorn and North.

Tasmania will end up with a license out of this. AFL won't be too disappointed about the Roos making their job a little bit easier.

Its hard to tell. I'm not too confident given the AFL politics.

I recon Media exposure is helping, but who knows.

Gil would be looking more towards his future.

Seeing what cushy directorships he can pick up.

Crown Casino would now be off the radar given the mess 'fatty' Demetriou is in with them.;)

It’s North.

They’ll go sell their games to someone else.

They snubbed their noses at Gold Coast, Canberra, Sydney, and probably Tasmania. They won't have anywhere else to go. Darwin, but that's not going to really help them. Maybe New Zealand.

Their board gets very upset whenever relocation and them are used in the same sentence, but this wouldn't happen if they could stand on their own 2 feet instead of playing games in a different state to help try and keep their club afloat.

Yep. If they wanted to keep them.
It would give the AFL massive leverage in dictating North’s future, something the club has just managed to avoid in the last decade.

This years financials from them will tell a story. As will their call on staying in Tassie.

Maybe they won't have much of a call on 'staying' in Tassie?

We'll soon find out. I hope its a very short term stay if any at all!
