If Higgins was absolutely essential, he would have gotten two years. But again, say Higgins and Brown stays.

We're what, mid-table again for two years? So we need to replace Ziebell, Higgins, Tarrant, Goldstein, Cunnington and add to the forward line and midfield with maybe two picks 8-11 and then another two 25-30? Nowhere near enough.

I'm not completely justifying cycles or endless rebuilds, but we do not have the draft capital to replace those players. It would be delaying the inevitable and cause way more problems for our list heading forward.

Blow it up and do it right.
I was a * Brown off for multiple reasons. The only reason to keep brown was a marketing one.

Those decisions were made without a coach. I’d bet Noble would have liked higgins in the squad

Felt like a step backwards tonight.

Skill level was atrocious and was better than the decision making.

Also can the AFL stop scheduling night games on the Gold Coast? Play during the day when the balls not a cake of soap.
I was at the game last night and it wasn't really humid at all, at least not enough to be used as an excuse.
I'm understanding of the differences in weather conditions from Vic to Qld and that the Suns live and train in them but not accepting of the drastic differences in performance between the two clubs last night.
We were atrocious in parts.

But you're from Cairns so nowhere is really humid in comparison....

It wasn't humid here at all (these days where I live is becoming part of the GC Hinterland  ) last night. * all dew this morning too. That is surprising considering the rain we've had. Humidity difference from Vic might have been worth up to 30% of our shittiness last night but the rest was on the players.

Need Froggy and McDonald back in asap

i didn't watch the game last night at all, checked the scores at one stage and yeah went back to what i was doing. A fair point you raise, McDonald, Froggy, Cunners, Tarrant, hayden, Perez and Xerri all unavailable.

Add in the gone dozen and no one can be honestly surprised by these results- surely? I think it's why we've ramped up our off field support to deal with the whacks that will come our way.

I am glad some are now seeing have shithouse the Scott/Joyce combo was, about time. And in the 90's even as we built a side , we had no shortage of top players wanting to join us, that will be the same in a couple of seasons. We've the bones of a very good side.

keep the faith people.

Always. However when your aforementioned are on the park its not an uncompetitive team. Cancers needs to be removed ASAP

If you take away the second quarters we've actually been competitive, winning three quarters and losing three while conceded just six extra goals. There are positives to take out of the game, but once again we seem to be focusing on the final score more than the process, we are trying to develop a new game plan with a new coach and a young, inexperienced squad. There will be periods (or quarters) where we look amateurish and out of our depth, but as long as the team learns and we can improve over the course of the season I can take these heavy early defeats.

What I like from last nights game was:
- Anderson's return, he looked strong and determined and led our midfield well, unfortunately some of our other midfielders (Simpkin and LDU in patches) didn't follow his lead.
- Powell and Lazarro looked good in their second appearences, Powell in particular looks comfortable at this level and makes good decisions and is clean with his disposal.
- Corr, Young, Bonar and McKay look good down back, we should have a very solid defensive unit when Tarrant and McDonald return.
- Despite another poor second quarter, the guys continued to show fight and with a bit of luck may have won the quarter by a little more than 3pts.

Yes, however you could easily argue the opposition teams did one Q of hard work and can coast to hinder any significant score board pressure. Thisbis why I earlier stated, we’ve only won ONE genuine Q of footy.

Edit: 😂 just 6 extra goals.. weve kicked 14 in two weeks 😂

We’d be due to wheel out Roos soon. I’m sure this would be part of his job description.

The troubling thing about last nights match is that there's so little that can be taken out of it.

We really do need to apply to the AFL to not have any Qld matches in the first 6 rounds of the season. These are terrible conditions for football.

Get the players to wear AFL ******* approved gloves.

I know Clokes' type of glove, was banned. But surely you're allowed to wear others, in those conditions?

To me (and I don't claim to be a good selector) this is a better team than we had on the park last night. Polec is a leftie though and i kind of think he could also be better off with Stevo as a spreading target - TT seems to still be a cameo player. Could Turner and JZ switch? I'd love to see KT unleashed on the opposition's FP - really giving them some s**t. I also think that the forward line needs to hold it's shape better and the Captain could be responsible for holding them to account. Captain "Nasty Bastard" Ziebell!!!

PS: I see you included Hall. When he came on last night I thought his 5 minutes contributed more to the team than half of the blokes who'd been on all game.

We were able to generate 14 scoring shots without Dumont & Cunners against a team with fourteen #1 draft picks - that's a tick in my book.

And if we kicked 9 goals 5 behinds, instead of 5 goals 9 behinds, the entire narrative would be reversed. Suddenly it's hard not to get excited.

I'll be having $1k on us vs WB. We play Colonial Stadium better than any other team, Dogs coming off a 5 day break.....The plants are aligning.

Hayden is the type I think we need. Has pace and hardness and while he does not have great skills, a bit of energy around the ball is needed.

I'm concerned his decision making/vision would result in the ball getting picked off considering the game plan invites risks by playing through the middle.

Would love to be the person who spends all January thinking we're going to play finals or make top 4 all the time.

Honestly the application last night was piss poor and nothing is guaranteed about this direction, but it is far and away the best option.

But geez the reality bus needs to hit a few people. Losing sucks deeply, but christ on a bike, we are very much at the laying foundations stage of proceedings.

Well unless you have a crystal ball, would've been impossible to pick Cunners would cark it and Jed hurts himself.

One of Higgins or Cunners had to go to give LDU and Simpkin flying hours in the middle. It wasn't going to be Cunners.

What do you have to say about an administration that oversees the farewelling of club stalwarts at the end of 2016 and a rebuild................then has the team performance hit absolute rock bottom in 2020?

They removed the coach in mid 2019 for telling them that the list requires a major rebuild .........appoint another and then sees him gone in a year, after overseeing a disaster of football department appointments.............then bring in a spin doctor at the members expense (Roos), to run P.R. for them, because they suddenly realise that they don't have a ****ing clue, but still don't want to give up their positions............appoint their 2nd rookie coach in the span of 12 months........and then decides that the list does now require a major rebuild!

This is staggering incompetence!

People should forget about Ben Brown, or Dom Tyson, or Jared Polec, or whatever individual player, because this administration which has overseen the events spanning 2016 until the present day is the true cluster**** of this football club........and whats even more galling is that this pack of incompetents think they know so much about running a football club that they have given themselves the power to hand select or veto board appointments that suit them!!!!!!

I have stated for several years now that we have a football myopic administration, but still many folks would rather hook in to individual players, as they are incapable of seeing the true elephant in the room because they are too busy jizzing themselves about balanced accounting books.

When did we become a club that aspired to so little?!!!

Seriously, people have a dig at me for not buying a membership for the first time in decades, but for **cks sake, why would I waste the money?!

We need a football administration right now!

There is some strategic brilliance in the appointment of Paul Roos.

Roos was AFL appointed in to Melbourne after their however long with however many gifts at the bottom. This is after the AFL appointed Peter Jackson to the club.

That we've got Roos in already suggests we know where we are headed and the questions that are going to be asked. And rather than allowing the AFL to come in and make decisions we've insulated ourselves from that.

There are decisions that the board have made or ratified that I haven't like. But this move is pretty smart. I applaud them for keeping the AFL out of our business. At least we have the wheel.

I don't subscribe to the joking around after the game theory - if it is after the siren and said players have given their all then there isn't much point in acting filthy.

The coaches would have data on work-rate and I'd like to think that we will use the lever of omitting players if it's an ongoing problem.

I don't personally enjoy it but you're right.

There's some unfounded view (that I get) that the great sides didn't do it but I bet you could dig out plenty of 90s games where Carey et al were joking around with opponents after losses.

Boomer joked around with Hamish (as a cat) after we lost to Geelong. I didn't enjoy it at all but did that mean Boomer wasn't driven enough to win?
