I think Kelly is very talented, but he is restricted, GWS would likely match anything we offer him.
Not sure how the option in his contract works - would that count as an offer anyway? So we'd have to put up more than the reputed $1m? (Which would be crazy for us to do.....)

Yep, a lot of questions. With a team full of kids, who else are we spending the money on to meet the min cap?
Maybe a potential deal can be front loaded for 3 years, that way by the time the kids come through he would be back to median $$.

There's so much we don't know.

If he decides he wants to move clubs, and that occurs, then the GWS contract is null & void mate.

This isn't like property prices on a monopoly board.

It will all come down to the trading clubs contract and trade offers.

** Pardon the interruption. **

Kelly will most likely stay in Sydney.

Would it not be better for North to pay more to some of the more talented blokes on your list?

Yes there's a good question. If we are going to lure someone to our club for over a million dollars a year, surely we should be talking to a talented key forward.
We just de-listed half the population of PNG and have a heap of kids on minimum contracts. We could probably buy the other half of PNG if we wanted too..

List management advice from a Sydney supporter.

I have now seen it all.

Yes mate, there's potentially going to be a ton of free money sloshing about.

It's why we should put away a couple of the draftees now.

He is an RFA at years end.

They way I see it if GWS want to keep him they have to offer him $1mil a year for 8 years.

If he wants to leave he can accept an offer from any other club and if GWS want to 'match the offer' to force a trade they have to do so with $1mil a year for 8 years.

So, if Kelly wants to leave and GWS don't want to pay him $1mil a year for 8 years then they have to let him walk for free.

Unless it’s a Jayden Stephenson fire sale type trade deal then don’t bother with Kelly. Let Carlton or Essendon get ripped off. We need to bolster our key position stocks the next few years so concentrate there.
We'll have to pay the cap minimum this year, will struggle without 1-2 decent names coming in.
Give him a front loaded contract he cant refuse and then minimal pay when the younger guys stand demanding big bucks.

5 years, 4.5 mil. Highest cap hit we can afford in the first two years with a significant drop off in years 3-5. The theory is obviously the same as the Polec deal except not required to give up any capital.

if he doesn’t want to come then so be it

Jesus ............. Not this S*** again, Every year this comes up EVERY YEAR !!!!!!!!!

dont worry the positive is this is the last chance to get him before he is locked up for his career.

one way or another we will know once and for all if he will play for us or never by years end

As evidenced by his turning down $9 million to play for the club.

Though I found that annoying it was a little understandable at the GIANTS did seem on the verge of a flag. For all we know he though he might have just had to stay 2 years get a flag then leave... It just pissed me off how many of his Giant mates came out and said stay at the club so we can have success together while next min they bailed for Essendon/Hawthorn etc

Sorry my fault maybe, saw that article, Just thought its such a weird unique position he is in with these contract terms.

If he wants the money, he will stay at GWS. He knocked back crazy money from us to re-sign at GWS for what was it, $800k a year? His manager said go for success, wonder if his tune will change now.

He has $1m a year trigger for 6 years, unless he has an amazing 2021, can't see him getting remotely close to that kind of offer.

Not interested - having good people at the club is more important in this rebuild. His value has dropped and why should we play hard ball for someone that’s historically shown he doesn’t want to be here? Use the money in the future to hold onto LDU, Simpkin etc.
