68,000 tests in 2 days in Qld, probably 60k of those tests in SE Qld which has a population of 3.6m. So 1 in 60 being tested is impressive.

First test of any kind since their initial blood tests for a lot of Queenslanders I'd imagine.

The poo will really hit the fan when those who have received their first dose turn up 12 weeks later along with those who are lining up for their first dose.
It would be smart if they partition injection sites into first dose only and second dose only. It is a dilution of sorts, but worth doing.
I hope there is some available data for effectiveness of the 2nd dose, even up to 24 weeks out from the first dose.
Anyone who believed there would be a straight line ascent to total vaccination of those desiring it, was living in a dream world. Of course there will be a lag time in the process before things progress more rapidly.

Good point the situation is not going to get any less complicated. Given the confusion surrounding the first jab roll out who knows what will happen if the current system has to manage first and second jabs simultaneously.

As to things progressing more rapidly I don't know why the Government doesn't just hand the whole process over to the States? They have managed to do just that with the Hotel Quarantine process, contract tracing and lock downs so why not vaccination as well? The States could be supplied vaccine direct from CSL on the basis of target population and on a regular basis. GP's could then request supplies through the State Health system on the basis of bookings. As it is we have a total confusion of Commonwealth and State programmes and a failure to communicate.

Maybe getting the country vaccinated by October 31st was supposed to be a vote catcher for Scott Morrison and the Coalition? If that was the case it has all the hallmarks of giant failure atm.

Went for a test at a drive thru collection station on Tuesday morning and had to wait 3.5 hours in a line of cars 1.5km long. Must say those running the show were doing a good job of keeping things moving and processing people thru pretty efficiently. By the time we left the line was still 1.5km long. Received the all clear this morning at 5am.

That's why mass vaccination centres make sense. You go to centre A if you are getting your first shot and go to centre B if you are getting your second shot. It keeps the admin simpler.

Biden said the US feds would co-ordinate 100m jabs in his administration's first 100 days, but they got there in 59 days and at a rate of 2.8m a day they will have 200m+ jabbed by the first 100 days and by end of July, 75% of people will have got their 2 jabs. Most of the work has been done by states and cities/counties but the feds have played a key co-ordination role.

Mass vaccination should have happened for all frontline border control, medi-hotel / quarantine and health care workers before anyone else. That way the first half a million doses of Pfitzer could have vaccinated all of the key workers by mid March given the weekly arrival of Pfizer vaccine starting in mid February with the first 142,000 doses and the jabs are 4 weeks apart.

But the feds wanted the glory and the cost control via reduced Medicare rebates for GP's.

Phase 1.a - upto 1.4m doses

Quarantine and border workers 70,000
Frontline health care worker sub-groups for prioritisation 100,000

Aged care and disability care staff 318,000
Aged care and disability care residents 190,000
Total 678,000

How exactly?
You need to hang around for at least 15 mins after the jab in case you have an anyphylactic reaction.
Harder to keep an eye on people in cars rather than in chairs.
Then if an epipen is needed, harder/ slower to access patient in car and to observe if they improve.

The swab on the other hand, is just a swab.

And you can't assign an area for cars to park and wait and personnel who all they do is check people after their 15 minute wait? It's all just basic logistics.

You can't see people who are sitting in cars. So you need someone that is observing only a couple of cars, so it starts becoming impractical logisitics because of the numbers of people needed and the number of parking spaces needed.

So you can't come up with solutions just probems?? Have a look at what they do at Dodger stadium, they manage.

At the moment I am struggling to understand why the AstraZeneca doses are not given as a 44% Initial Dose followed by a 100% follow-up dose (ie close to a 1/2 dose and then a full dose). This is based upon the data presented in the table in the following reference- 90% effective against the virus rather than less effective full dose/ full dose protocol:

The reference is recent - March 2021.

From the article it seems there are 5 full doses per vial.
Given that there is a shortage of doses in Australia and world wide, if the first dose were to be administered as a half dose that clearly equates to about 10 jabs per vial at the first vaccination rather than 5.
Only reason I can think of is that the number of subjects on the half dose/ full dose regimen during trialling was not sufficiently large to have confidence in the data. In which case you would think they might be going hammer and tongs to extend the data.
Its the first time I have seen actual data.

Just because I am an idiot doesn't mean I, and for that matter the rest of Australia, should be treated like one.

The Government has managed just 670,000 doses of vaccine out of the 4,000,000 they were scheduled to give but according to the Department of Health we are not behind schedule.

According to Greg Hunt the slow roll out was due to overseas supply issues. That may be so but CSL promised 2,000,000 doses in the first week followed by 1,000,000 per week in subsequent weeks. On that basis we should have 2,000,000 locally produced AstraZeneca doses to distribute. So where are they Greg?

In the first week of the local production we managed 230,000 vaccinations. At that rate it will take nearly two years to vaccinate all at risk Australians.

Blood clot detected in 44 year old Melbourne man after AstraZeneca shot. We have to assume that he is a front line worker.

if one person can do a jab every minute let’s assume which would be highly unlikely with compliance, we’d need 15 wait bays per administrator.

A patient infected with a mutant strain of COVID-19 who was hospitalised in Adelaide is now in a critical condition, health authorities have confirmed.

The man, in his 40s, is one of 12 people in South Australia with COVID-19, all of whom acquired the virus overseas.
SA Health moved the man, who has the South African variant of the virus, from a dedicated quarantine hotel for positive cases to the intensive care unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Hardly surprising.
Give the same amount a placebo you'll get a few end up with clots.
The birth control pill causes clots as well, in a much higher frequency.
