Taberner is exactly what we need. McKay would obviously be first choice, though. But Taberner leads hard, works had and can take a contested grab - he doesn't need it lace out.
Taberner just signed a 3 year deal

Harry McKay still out of contract
Riccardi and brander too as more mobile athletic kpf

Fischer mcasey as a young out of contract KPP is appealing also especially considering the psd

Throw the kitchen sink at Harry McKay.

Out of contract and we've already got his twin. A great KPF is the hardest thing to find in footy. There's a great opportunity here to get one and I'd say we've got far more money to play with than Carlton do given their recent shopping sprees on big name free agents. If Carlton finish outside the 8 again they will have achieved nothing since he got there - it's not like he'd stay to continue success there.

I think we can all see that we desperately need another tall forward. McKay immediately becomes our best and allows Larkey to take the #2 defender each week, which is where he's had success so far in his career. We'll have our pillars for the next 10+ years with the McKay twins at opposing ends.

Let's play devil's advocate and say that we finish bottom with one or no wins and get given a start of first round priority pick. I'd be comfortable trading Carlton pick 2 for McKay as he's young, proven and fills a massive need for the club long term. Can Carlton match an $800k+ per year like we'd be able to offer? Would Carlton's continued mediocrity on field be enough for him to want to stay? Even if we can't agree to a trade with the Blues, if we convince him not to sign with them we'll have Pick 1 in the PSD to pick him up for free.

If the decision is, for example, pay Kelly $900k in a position we'll be able to fill long term with our top pick in a midfielder-heavy draft this year; OR, pay the same money to McKay to shore up the forward line for the next premiership tilt? I know what I'm going with.

Extremely unlikely scenario, this. However, definitely a line of thought to consider as long as McKay remains unsigned.
I’d love to hear your pitch to McKay after this weekend..

Money talks and we've got it. He's not getting any success in the immediate future at Carlton, so why not take the big money and come and build from the ground up for a proper tilt at the flag in a few years whilst playing alongside your twin brother?

It's a hard sell of course, and one of the reasons I said it was very unrealistic at the end of the post. The list management team would be doing themselves, the club and the fans a disservice if they didn't even attempt to have a crack at him.

Oh I’d hope the club is having a crac too.

And however unlikely, I just love to hear a good pitch.. sometime some gold comes out.

my pitch would basically consist of..

Guys. Please. We are not getting Harry McKay. Let’s stop now. Better chance Ben asks for a trade to the Blues. We are going to do this the hard way.

Offer Levi casboult a couple years of relief ruck and a big bodied forward. Our forward line sucks as much as they all do individual and we need help.

We’ll be keeping an eye on Jackson Callow now that he’s signed for Norwood. Hope that we pick him up in the mid season draft. Big body with vice like hands and he would help Larkey up forward. I was surprised that he didn’t get picked up in the draft.
Another key forward prospect for next year is Jacob Van Rooyen. I think this kid will turn out to be very special and a better player than Logan McDonald.
Would we select him with pick 1 though given the mids available like Sinn and Horne? I’d love us to take him at pick 1. With Larkey and Van Rooyen we’d be set up forward for many years to come.

If we get Callow in the MSD then all good - still got Coomben to come in too.

Yep JVR should be a beauty. How do we split pick 1 into 3&4?

Get a gun mid and JVR... 😍

Keen to hear your out of contact KPF options
No gun forward is coming to us mate.

The crabs you’ve mentioned for the past week have been in the system already and haven’t dominated, so the logical thing to do is go back to the draft - Callow and/or JVR pls..

Perfect so you contributed no names for trade targets

keep up the good work

That was in 2017 and I am sure he will be. You don't lead the contested marks in the comp if you're sh*t. Unless we would have had another player that was capable that could also support Larkey?

Maybe after a couple of years, at 27 won’t be a part of our long term plans, Freo will re-sign him, I get the appeal but what it would cost would fly against what we are planning
FWIW I am very much in the opinion last year was a massive outlier (no surprise)

No, Im happy to go to the draft.

But please don’t let me stop you from throwing random names up mate.

In fact, throw a few randoms up for me while you’re at it 👍

Let's be real, Charlie Comben could turn out to be the next Tom Curran (injury history predraft and all).... bloke has had so many injuries already and I can't exactly back our medicos to get him right given the shitshow the last few years. Hope that's not the case for Charlie's sake

Not this draft
Bit of a sliding doors draft - we took comben/Perez but could of had Harry jones (*)and rivers (dees) players.
We just have wretched injuries with our kids
wretched injury luck with pretty much every player.
Personally improving our player availability is the top priority - all avenues must be explored in this regard.

Holy sh*t, Casboult, Ratogelea, Taberner and Riccardi being mentioned, some people really want us to stay bottom 4 for ever..

We need a stop gap or larkey will be finished with the double teaming he is copping.
Anyone that is free will be worth a look.

Well I’m below 6’0 so it rules me out, anyone here over 6’5? Must mark the ball, kicking skills are desirable but not mandatory

Best performing key fwd in mid season, can look at picking up 18yo key forward in draft, finally free agent or trade if not working
