Do any photos or videos from the 1990 exhibition match between Geelong and Port exist?

My brother in-law said he has the budget for the game somewhere. Said he will look around for it. If he finds it i will scan some pages on here.

I went to the mid-season game against Essendon in 1993. It was played at night in mid-week. I think it was a couple of weeks after the famous Essendon-Geelong game at the MCG where Ablett kicked 14 goals and Salmon kicked 10 (I was also at that game, having been in Melbourne on a work trip that week).

My memory of the Port-Esendon game is that Essendon kicked away early and had a comfortable lead most of the night before Port made a late charge and went down by about two goals.

I remember also that Tim Watson played in that game. I think it was his first game back after he decided to come out of retirement. Essendon went on to win the premiership that year.
There was also a trial against Essendon on 26 Feb 1994 (I know the date as it was my cousin's wedding and I spent half the night going out to the car to listen to the game on the radio). It was a Saturday night game at Footy Park and it was basically an Essendon reserves team. Port won comfortably by around 70 points from memory.

I went to the trial game against Geelong and have a number of fond memories of the day. They obviously weren't expecting much of a crowd as there were only a couple of gates open to get into the ground so we didn't end up making it inside until around quarter time due to the line up. There ended up being over 30,000 there.

We were sitting near the Port cheer squad who were in fine form that day. They had 2 chants going regularly throughout the match which I found hilarious as a 12 year old and still remember clearly (1) "Ablett's a w***er" followed by 5 fast claps and (2) "We hate Geelong coz they're Victorian" followed by 11 fast claps.

Welcome about RWS. Good time to start posting on the Port board.

Welcome to the board.

I have no memory of that game but I do remember there was a trial game in 1995 against Fremantle, who were about to make their debut in the AFL.

The only reason I remember the Freo game is because it was on the same day I flew over to Melbourne for a job interview. My flight back was late so I ended up missing the game. I got the job I interviewed for, moved to Melbourne shortly after and have been here more or less ever since.

There was a fairly big build up to that game on the back of being awarded the second licence. Was a nice balmy night and couldn't believe how tall Spider Burton was.

I still have the budget - I'll try to dig it up and post some pages from it.

It was also the first senior game for a 16 year old Gavin Wanganeen, I remember on the eastern wing he eluded 3 Geelong players, absolute freak. Unfortunately he was gone in 12 months but thankfully had a fairytale ending 14 years later.

Starting to get a little closer to finding this game.
Found some photos at least. One of which is a snap shot of the flukey goal he kicked from the pocket.

I have sent out a lot of feelers so fingers crossed this game eventually turns up somewhere.

Surely there was a Cats supporter living in Adelaide at the time who happened press the record button when this game was televised.

Fabulous memorabilia.

Those footy records look in new condition!
It does say John Cahill as coach but when I had a chat to him on the phone, he was sure he did not coach that day as he was ill or something along those lines.

Portmagpies36, you don't know of anyone at the time who recorded the game?
I have asked Liam Pickering to see if he could follow it up as he has good contacts at both Adelaide clubs but have not heard back from him for a few months now.
I guess there is always the local classifieds.
Given the final scoreline, it is not a game many would have kept but with such brilliant talent on the field (Wanganeen & Ablett the obvious two), I'm hopeful it does exist.

Unfortunately I don't have any footage of that game nor have I seen any other than from the local news service. I am pretty sure Jack Cahill missed that game due to illness.
I was lucky to get a program for that game because the crowd was 30 to 35000 way more than they expected and they completely sold out. Once again the SANFL had no idea how much the public wanted AFL football in South Australia.

I'm sure I have the Freo game on VHS at home somewhere. Not sure what condition the recording is in though.

1990.

What a year.

Never ending pride for us, never ending bitterness for the supporters of nine s**t clubs.
